As most of you know by now, Samsung encountered some issues with its first foldable smartphone, which forced the company to delay its release. The Galaxy Fold was supposed to ship to consumers last month, but the company delayed it indefinitely, and it seems like a new release date is still not available.
Samsung reached out to consumers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Fold in order to let them know that the company is still working on the Galaxy Fold in order to bring it up to the standard that is expected out of the company. Samsung also said that it will have more info in the coming weeks, but cannot offer a new release date at this point in time.
The company did ask those of you who pre-ordered it to let it know if you’re still interested in the device, if you don’t do that, and the company is unable to ship the device your way until May 31, your pre-order will be automatically canceled, and money will be refunded to you, in full. In fact, you have the option to cancel your pre-order at any time before the device ships, you can do that via Samsung.com.
For those of you who are not in the loop, Samsung encountered some display issues with the Galaxy Fold. The company shipped out early review units out, and not long after that, issues started popping up. In one instance, white lines popped up on the display, and soon after that, the display stopped working. In a different case, the display started acting weird, as part of it stopped working, until it died completely.
Truth be said, some reviewers are actually to blame for their display issues, as they tried to remove the protective plastic layer from the display. They thought that Samsung simply installed a screen protector on top of the display, but that was not the case. So, in some cases, reviewers are to blame, but most of them did not try to remove that layer, so the Galaxy Fold does have an underlying issue that Samsung needs to address, which is something the company already admitted.
Samsung started manufacturing Galaxy Fold units before this way discovered, which essentially means that the company will have to alter quite a few Galaxy Fold units, as this issue seems to be hardware-related.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold was announced back in February, along with the Galaxy S10 series of smartphones. This is the company’s very first foldable smartphone, and it’s actually quite expensive. Those who pre-ordered it had to part with $1,980 in order to get it, so nobody would blame those consumers if they pulled out of the deal right away, following issues that the company is having.
Samsung did the right thing and is giving users an option to pull out of the deal, and will even automatically refund them if they don’t reach until May 31, and the phone doesn’t ship by then. Judging by the way things are going at the moment, it’s not really realistic to expect that Samsung will sort everything out by May 31 and ship the Galaxy Fold units, but we’ll see.
