Google hasn’t announced the Pixel 4 yet, and likely won’t until October, but Skinomi has already put their screen protector for the phone, up for pre-order on its website. Skinomi has given it a release date of November 2019. Meaning, you are pre-ordering a screen protector over five months before it is actually available. That’s something you don’t see everyday.
This screen protector from Skinomi gives us a pretty good look at what to expect from the Pixel 4 this year. That includes a camera cut out that looks similar to the Galaxy S10+. Where there are two cameras on the right-side of the phone. Likely a regular selfie camera and then a wide-angle camera that we got with the Pixel 3 series this year. Other than that, the bezels look to be pretty minimal, and there doesn’t appear to be a curved display. Instead Google is sticking with a flat display.
The bezels look pretty small, and while that may not be all that interesting in 2019, with most smartphones ditching it. It’s impressive here. That is because it still has stereo front-facing speakers. Meaning that you’re going to get some really good sound out of this phone. The bottom bezel is very small and has a speaker in it, and of course the top has the earpiece so you can actually make phone calls.
In this image from Skinomi, you can see that there are physical buttons on the side, with a power button and a volume rocker on the right. Now that doesn’t necessarily debunk an earlier rumor we saw about the Pixel 4. That rumor was the fact that there wouldn’t be any physical buttons on the Pixel 4. HTC actually did something similar with the U12 last year. It didn’t have any physical buttons, though it looked like it did. The buttons didn’t move and just vibrated when you pressed them. So that could be what Google is doing here.
Specs on the Pixel 4 right now are still up in the air. There haven’t been many leaks regarding specs, but some leaks have pointed to the Snapdragon 855 chipset with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The processor isn’t a huge surprise, that’s what everyone is using this year. But the RAM is a nice surprise, if indeed that’s what Google goes with. The 4GB of RAM in the Pixel 3 is already a bit long in the tooth, and it’s only about seven months old right now. Seeing the storage bumped up to 128GB is another good thing, especially if Google is going to continue promoting how good its cameras are.
Google usually announces the new Pixel in October – usually in the first week – at a hardware event. As long as Google holds true to that pattern, we likely won’t see the Pixel 4 until October. Between now and then, we may see a good number of leaks and rumors, debunking each other, as we get closer to release. Any rumors you see right now, could be for prototypes and not the final version.
