Industry insider Evan Blass stated in a recent tweet that the Samsung Galaxy A50 would come to Verizon Wireless.
There is little information available about the pricing and availability of the handset, although the upcoming appearance of the handset on carrier’s retail outlets signals the efforts of Samsung Electronics to expand its market share in the United States through the release of devices that appeal to consumers on a limited budget.
The Galaxy A50 is a mid-range device powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 9610 SoC, and it sports a 6.4-inch display with a resolution of 2,340 by 1,080 pixels. Above the screen is a notch that houses the single front-facing camera equipped with a 25-megapixel sensor. Meanwhile, a fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication is located under the display.
The handset is available in hardware variants that differ primarily in RAM and internal flash storage capacities. The smartphone may feature either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and it may also come with either 64GB or 128GB of internal flash storage. The Galaxy A50 supports the expansion of the internal storage through the addition of a microSD card.
The rear panel of the handset contains a triple camera setup equipped with 25-megapixel, 5-megapixel, and 8-megapixel imaging modules. A 4,000mAh battery powers the device, and among the software features of the handset include Samsung Pay and Bixby virtual assistant.
The Galaxy A50 is just one of the mid-range devices that Samsung Electronics will reportedly ship to North American markets. Based on the model numbers indicated in the certifications granted by the Wi-Fi Alliance, the South Korean tech giant will likely launch the Galaxy A20 in the United States and Canada, and the company may also sell the Galaxy A70 in Canada. In comparison to previous mid-range handsets from the smartphone maker, Samsung’s new mid-tier offerings ship with higher-end features to compete with rival manufacturers.
The Galaxy A20 is cheaper compared to both the Galaxy A70 and the Galaxy A50, and it features only two rear cameras and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The lower price of the device also prompted Samsung to include smaller RAM and storage capacity into the Galaxy A20, with the handset sporting 3GB of RAM and 32GB of flash storage.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy A70 features a 6.7-inch display, which is larger than the screen size of the Galaxy A50. The handset also sports either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, although both hardware variants feature 128GB of internal storage.
Other handsets that Samsung Electronics launched as part of its mid-range Galaxy A lineup include the Galaxy A10, the Galaxy A30, and the Galaxy A80. The Galaxy A80 stands out from the rest of the smartphone series through its sliding and rotating camera setup.
Reports about the upcoming availability of the Galaxy A50 corroborates with recent issuances of certifications, and it may suggest that other mid-range handsets from the tech firm may also appear in retail outlets soon. However, at this point, it is not yet clear if the Galaxy A50 will be exclusively available in Verizon or other carriers will also sell the mid-range device from Samsung Electronics.
