The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is currently one of the most popular fitness bands in the world, and Xiaomi has announced its successor, the Mi Band 4. This fitness tracker has been leaking for a while now, and it seems like most of those leaks were spot on, at least as far as the design is concerned.
The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 resembles the Mi Band 3 quite a bit, though unlike on the Mi Band 3, this fitness tracker clearly shows you where the home button is. On the Mi Band, all you had was a concave capacitive key, without any additional indication. Some people may actually prefer the Mi Band 3’s design because of that, as it was more understated.
In any case, the Mi Band 4 does bring several improvements over the Mi Band 3, and the main one is the color display. This is the first Mi Band-branded fitness tracker to offer a color display, and it’s an OLED panel on top of everything,
The Mi Band 4 features a 0.95-inch AMOLED touch-sensitive display, and it is 39.9-percent bigger than the Mi Band 3’s panel. This display is also protected by 2.5D scratch-resistant glass. The Mi Band 4 comes with a silicone strap, which you’ll be more than familiar with if you’ve used the Mi Band 3, as it’s almost identical.
The Mi Band 4 includes 77 different watch faces, and it is 5ATM water resistant, which means you can take it for swimming without an issue, up to 50 meters. The Mi Band 4 also comes with a 6-axis high-precision sensor and 6 sports modes that can track swimming in real time, and also supports smart stroke recognition.
Xiaomi had introduced two variants of this fitness tracker in China, one with NFC, and one without it. The NFC variant includes an NFC chip, and it also comes with a microphone for the company’s smart assistant. The global variant probably will not include that smart assistant, but NFC is expected to be a part of the package, we’ll see.
The Mi Band 4 comes equipped with a heart rate sensor, while it also has a pedometer built in, not to mention that it can show you your phone’s notifications, calls, weather, and various other information.
The device also includes a tri-axis accelerometer and a tri-axis gyro sensors, along with with a capacitive wear monitoring sensor, and a sedentary reminder. The variant without NFC weighs 22.1 grams and comes with a 135mAh battery, while the variant with NFC weighs 22.2 grams and includes a 125mAh battery.
Xiaomi says that the variant without NFC is expected to last you about 20 days, while the other unit will provide you with a 15-day battery life. The Mi Band 4 is black, but it will ship with Black, Brown, Blue, Orange, and Pink straps. The device will go on sale in China on June 16, starting at 169 Yuan ($24) for the NFC variant, and the NFC model will cost 229 Yuan ($33). The company also announced a special edition Avengers model which is priced at 349 Yuan ($50).
Xiaomi did not confirm anything regarding the Mi Band 4’s global availability, at least not yet, but a report surfaced not long after the announcement. That report stated that the Mi Band 4 will become available in Europe and other areas soon, it may even be announced next week, and the pricing is said to start at €29.99 in Europe.
