Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare Is Coming To The US

Bandai Namco’s popular Gundam series is coming to mobile devices in the form of a new game called Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare, and it’s going to be the first Gundam title released for mobile devices in North America, as the game will be launching in the US later this year. Prior to now any Gundam games which managed to make it to mobile devices were only released in Japan, or at the very least never made it to the US, so this is a big thing for fans of the popular anime series.

You can pre-register for the game on Android right now if you’re interested in giving this game a shot. Pre-registration also comes with some bonuses if enough people actually pre-register. Bandai Namco states that if 100,000 users pre-register than each person will get an in-game Gundam to use, and if they double that goal to 200,000 users then you’ll also get an in-game Wing Gundam.

Gundam Battle won’t be launching until later this Summer on August 21, but if you’re heading to San Diego Comic-Con you’ll be able to get some early hands-on time with it as Bandai Namco will be hosting demos of the game at the event between July 18 and July 21.

When it comes to gameplay the trailer below and the title of the game pretty much says it all. You’ll be piloting a Gunpla mech and battling it out against other mechs. If you’re unfamiliar with the Gunpla, these are the plastic Gundam models that you can paint and put together.

The story of the game follows this theme and you play as a student who joins the Gunpla club, which is in danger of shutting down completely. You’ll need to build your Gunpla and compete against others in tournaments and win them to save the club’s future. As Gundam is an anime series and the Gundam Gunpla franchise is based on that anime, the visuals and graphics are for this game are going to be in the anime style.

The game will let you build your Gundam models to your own specifications so if you like customization there seems to be plenty of it here. You can mix and match the different parts of Gunpla to build the ultimate mech, and you can even mix and match the skills to go along with it so you’re ready for battle against any opponent.

You can paint the mechs too so your Gunpla is always looking its very best before you head out into battle, which is a nice nod to anyone who has actually put any of these models together after spending hours painting each and every piece.

Though the main chunk of the gameplay is focused on battles, building Gunpla can act as a whole separate game thanks to all the different combinations of pieces that can make up an entire model, meaning if you really like customization and if you collect enough pieces you can probably spend hours sifting through each piece and building new mechs. Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare is the latest game from Bandai Namco coming to mobile, but you can find other games from the publisher based on different popular anime series, such as Dragon Ball Legends, Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag, and Tokyo Ghoul [re:birth].
