An alleged image of Huawei Mate 30 Pro’s glass protector has been posted on the Chinese social networking website Weibo and it implies that the display of the company’s next flagship will have marked curves.
Smartphones with curved displays are not that uncommon in the market, but it appears that with the upcoming Mate 30 Pro, Huawei is going to step up its game significantly. According to the image, the sides of the display curve at nearly 90 degrees, which is much more than the displays of the current smartphones.
The image is also in line with a previous rumor, which claimed that the Mate 30 Pro’s display will have four curved edges. It also seems like the display is extending towards the sides of the phone, which leaves no space for buttons and SIM card tray. This means that the phone might come with pressure-sensitive, virtual buttons, and feature the eSIM technology. However, since this option is not available in a lot of countries, it would limit the number of people that can buy the phone and thus Huawei is unlikely to go for it.
The leaked image also corroborates a previous report which said that Huawei engineers are working on a unibody design, which would allow them to join the display and rear glass panel of phones, and leave out the middle metal frame entirely.
However, in practice, this might not be easy as it sounds and will take a lot more work than phones with ceramic backs. Thus, the Mate 30 Pro will most likely not have a unibody design. But then again, Huawei has slumped in popularity in recent months, and a standout design is just what the company needs to be back in the spotlight.
So, whether or not the Mate 30 Pro will sport a seamless design remains to be seen, but it looks like its screen will wrap around the side frames. The only missing piece of the puzzle here is the placement of the SIM card slot, but that might be resolved by putting it towards the bottom of the phone, as the top and bottom parts of the display do not seem to extend as much as the left and right sides.
The Mate 30 Pro is expected to sport a gigantic 6.71-inch display and throw in the display curves, and you can picture a phone that will be difficult to hold for a lot of people in their palms comfortably. Thus, it will be interesting to see what the end product looks like and whether it will be ergonomic.
The AMOLED panel of the Mate 30 Pro is expected to have a 90Hz refresh rate, something which not might matter a lot to average consumers, but can make a world of difference to people who play games on their phones.
Although the well-known leaker Ice Universe says that the phone will have a gigantic notch, the chances of it having a pinhole display are equally plausible. As for the technical specifications, the Mate 30 Pro will reportedly be underpinned by the next-gen 7nm EUV-processed Kirin 985 chipset. It is also expected to have the Balong 5000 5G modem.
