Motorola P50 Is A 'One Vision' Clone Without Stock Android

As expected, a new Motorola-branded phone got announced in China, the Motorola P50. HMD Global announced this mid-range device in the country, and it is fueled by one of Samsung’s Exynos processors, the Exynos 9609 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz.

This phone looks like the Motorola One Vision, and it actually shares its specifications as well, but there is one notable difference between the two devices. The Motorola P50 is not a part of Google’s Android One project, which means it does not ship with stock Android. This device is aimed at the Chinese market, and it’s highly unlikely it will launch anywhere else.

The device is made out of metal and glass, while it includes two vertically-aligned cameras on the back. Those two cameras are placed in the top-left corner of the phone’s back side, while a capacitive fingerprint scanner sits on the back of this device as well. On that fingerprint scanner, you will notice Motorola’s logo. It is worth saying that the phone’s cameras do protrude on the back a bit, and that the back side of the device is curved.

The phone does feature a “chin” below the display, while its bezels are quite thin in general. Its display features rounded corners, and a display camera hole sits in the top-left corner of this phone’s display. The power / lock, volume up, and volume down buttons are placed on the right side of this phone.

The Motorola P50 features a 6.3-inch fullHD+ CinemaVision LCD display with a 21:9 display aspect ratio. It has the same aspect ratio as the Sony Xperia 1, an extra tall display aspect ratio. The phone also sports 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage (expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card).

Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on this smartphone, while the phone includes two SIM card slots (2x nano SIM). This is a hybrid dual SIM setup, as you can either use a SIM card in the second slot, or include a microSD card in order to expand this phone’s storage.

On the back of the device you’ll find 48-megapixel (f/1.7 aperture, OIS), and 5-megapixel (f/2.2 aperture) cameras, while a 25-megapixel unit (f/2.0 aperture) is included on the phone’s front side.

A 3.5mm headphone jack is also a part of the package, while the phone includes a bottom-firing loudspeaker, and dual microphones. A 3,500mAh battery is also featured in the Motorola P50, and it supports 15W TurboPower fast charging

The Motorola P50 does support Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, and dual 4G VoLTE. The phone measures 160.1 x 71.2 x 8.7mm, and weighs 181 grams. The device has been announced in Blue and Bronze color variants, and it costs 2,499 Yuan ($360) in China. Pre-orders for the phone kick off on July 15, while it will be available for purchase from July 20. It will be available from a ton of major retailers in the country, and as already mentioned, it will almost certainly not leave China with this name and software.
