The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G managed to beat Samsung, OPPO, and LG in 5G speeds tests. The company’s first 5G smartphone managed to hit 694.51Mbps download speed when running on EE in the UK, thus beating the competition.
Now, these are some crazy download speeds compared to 30Mbps average that 4G can deliver over there. Of course, these speeds are marked when the network is not cluttered with tons of users, we may see different results in the future.
Now, OnePlus actually decided to share some data to prove that its smartphone beat the competition. OnePlus says that Rootmetrics undertook the test which marked readings on four phones, including the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, LG V50 ThinQ 5G, OPPO Reno 5G, and the aforementioned OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. Those readings were marked in static locations in the UK capital, London.
As already mentioned, the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is leading the race, as it managed to hit 694.51Mbps download speeds. The LG V50 ThinQ 5G is second in line with 598.44Mbps download speeds, and it’s followed by the OPPO Reno 5G who managed to hit 592.01Mbps. The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G marked 548.45Mbps download speeds according to this test.
TechRadar says that it reached out to all four companies for comments, and only OnePlus replied thus far. OnePlus said that increasing 5G speeds has been one of its main goals for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. The company says that it redesigned the 5G antenna, and adopted a totally different internal design by using a stacked PCB in order to allow for the additional 5G hardware, and added an expanded cooling system.
The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G managed to achieve fastest download speeds, and 5G will be fast, but 5G technology’s main benefits come in form of latency and reliability, as both will be stronger than on 4G. 5G is aiming to ensure that you always have stable and instant connections, even when a ton of people are trying to connect in one dense area.
5G era is still not here in full force, it will take quite some time for 5G to become a standard across the globe, but we’re already seeing first signs of 5G. A number of smartphone manufacturers have released 5G-enabled smartphones, though those are all flagship-grade devices which are quite expensive. We will see more affordable 5G smartphones in the future, of course, though you’ll have to wait a bit until that happens.
The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, in case you’re wondering, is the same as the OnePlus 7 Pro, for the most part. The only difference comes in the form of 5G-related hardware which enables the device to connect to 5G networks, but all other (regular) internals are the same as in the regular variant. The 5G variant of the OnePlus 7 Pro will not be available for purchase across the globe, as there’s no point in selling that device where 5G is not available, of course.
