Samsung is getting ready to launch the Galaxy Tab S6 in the next few weeks, and a new leak shows that Samsung is actually going the dual-camera route on this new tablet. Likely in an effort to make tablet cameras actually usable. This is coming from a leak that Sammobile got their hands on.
This leak shows the dual-camera on the backside, which looks to be in a corner and a vertical setup, like the iPhone. Which, yeah it looks like Samsung copied the iPhone’s look, but this is where a camera should be on a tablet. In a corner, where it’s out of the way.
The bezels on the Galaxy Tab S6 do look to be a bit on the thick side, but on a tablet that’s not as big of a deal. Seeing as this is a much larger device than a smartphone, having thicker bezels are needed so you can actually hold onto the tablet. And if you plan to do any gaming on this tablet, they are also needed so you can actually game without the experience being terrible. On the bright side, that means there is no notch or hole-punch display on this tablet, which will make some people happy.
Looking at the images below, we can see that there is an indentation on the back, below the camera, what looks to be for the S Pen. So instead of it slotting into a silo like it does on the Galaxy Note smartphones, it may attach to the back, magnetically, and sit flush (or close to it). Of course, we could be wrong here, but where we can’t see the bottom, that looks to be the most likely thing.
Galaxy Tab S6 is also currently running on Android 9 Pie. Not a big surprise to see it running on Pie and not on Q. This is because Android Q is not yet available as a stable version of Android, and Samsung does not yet have the final code for this update. Though, depending on when the Galaxy Tab S6 launches, it could launch with Android Q. But if it launches early next month with the Galaxy Note10 at Unpacked, that would be pretty unlikely.
A big question with this tablet is the name. It’s the Galaxy Tab S6, while there was no Galaxy Tab S5. There was, however, a Galaxy Tab S5e. Which was Samsung’s premium mid-range tablet. After that tablet was announced, internally the company decided to jump to the next number, which is the Galaxy Tab S6. Makes sense for Samsung, as some might see this as a downgrade, after the Galaxy Tab S5e came out. And there was really no need to release three different premium tablets in the Tab S5 line, like it did for the Galaxy S10 line earlier this year.
According to the roadmap that leaked yesterday, the Galaxy Tab S6 (which is still listed as the Galaxy Tab S5 on the roadmap) is slated to be released this year. So it really wouldn’t be too crazy to see it coming at Unpacked next month.
