Verizon is touting its fifth 5G-enabled device with the recently launched MiFi M1000 from Inseego, which the nation’s largest wireless carrier just launched yesterday. In addition to launching this new MiFi it also opened up its 5G Ultra Wideband network in St. Paul Minnesota, which is also its fifth 5G Ultra Wideband city to launch so far, and it plans to launch over 30 cities in total that are equipped with the 5G Ultra Wideband network by the end of 2019.
Currently along with St. Paul, Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband has been rolled out in Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, and Providence, making these the first five cities where customers of the wireless carrier can take advantage of the benefits that the new MiFi M1000 provides.
According to Verizon those benefits include the ability to stream 4k and 8k video thanks to the rapid download speeds that the 5G Ultra Wideband network is capable of. While this is perfect for consumers who want access to blazing fast downloads for any number of reasons the MiFi was also designed for businesses. Verizon notes that the MiFi M1000 is its very first device that is both business-ready and 5G-enabled, which surely makes a turning point for any businesses that already take advantage of similar Verizon devices that utilize its 4G LTE network.
While there are likely a large number of uses for businesses Verizon highlights a couple like the ability to more easily link up remote teams that internet out in the field. The MiFi M1000 will support up to 15 devices connected to it at once, making this an ideal device to have for teams that require internet and are at or under that number.
For the consumer side of things, in addition to making it possible to stream 4k and 8k video Verizon says this MiFi is perfect for customers that want to tether a VR or AR headset for near real-time VR/AR gaming experiences. Connecting the MiFi to the headset Verizon says, could be done with a USB cable for “ultra low lag.”
If you’re wanting to get your hands on the Inseego MiFi M1000 as a consumer, you can do so right now and Verizon is offering it in a few different ways. You can of course pick up the device at full retail cost and pay the $650 for it and not have to worry about contracts or monthly payments, but you can just as easily make the upfront cost lower if you choose to pick it up in either of those last two ways, as it will be $500 with a two-year contract or $27.08 a month for 24 months if you choose to break up the payments for it.
For business customers, the options are the same as is the cost except there’s no option for breaking it up in monthly payments, you simply buy it with a contract at $500 or buy it without a contract at $650. Any customers who buy this device and aren’t located in a city where Verizon has already rolled out the 5G Ultra Wideband won’t get 5G speeds through the MiFi until the network has been upgraded.
