Huawei had introduced its very own operating system at the Huawei Developer Conference (HDC) today, an OS called HarmonyOS. That is actually the HongMeng OS that was rumored for quite some time now, but its international name is HarmonyOS. You can read more about it by clicking here. That’s not all that Huawei announced at this conference, though, the company also introduced a brand new version of its Android skin, Emotion UI (EMUI) 10. This version of EMUI is based on Android Q aka Android 10, which is set to roll out later this year along with the Pixel 4 smartphones.
EMUI 10 will bring quite a few improvements to the company’s smartphones, including over 60-percent GPU Turbo performance improvement, over 70-percent improvement as far as Turbo Link is concerned, and an improvement of over 20-percent in EROFS (Extendable Read-Only File System) ROM.
This variant of EMUI will also bring multi-device interoperability. You will be able to make fullHD video calls with other Huawei devices, connect your friends with Huawei AI speakers, and use your smartphone to control your home’s smart screen.
EMUI 10 will also offer some new controls for your car, with HiCar. HiCar is Huawei’s Android Auto alternative, and it is supported by over 30 automobile manufacturers, it can work with over 120 car models at the moment.
Emotion UI also enables real-time interaction between your smartphone and computer. After you connect the two devices, you will be able to drag and drop files between devices without a problem, and use the keyboard to interact with your phone’s interface. These are only some examples.
EMUI 10 utilizes magazine-style UI, images are leaning towards the transparent side, while the font is somewhat larger here. Speaking of the UI, a system-wide dark mode is coming to EMUI 10, though it seems like it will be available via a later update, that part is not clear.
More changes are coming, and the company will roll out EMUI 10 to quite a few devices. The Huawei Mate 30 series smartphones are the first ones to debut EMUI 10 out of the box, while the Huawei P30 series will get EMUI 10 beta on September 8.
Later in September, it will gradually roll out to the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X, and Mate 20 RS Porsche Design. In addition to those phones, the Huawei Mate 20 Lite, Mate 20 X 5G, Mate X, Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Porsche Design Mate 10, Porsche Design Mate RS, P30, P30, P30 Lite, P20, P20 Pro, P Smart 2019, P Smart+ 2019, and P Smart Z are also confirmed to get the update.
Huawei will announce more devices to get this update, probably, but this is the initial list. It is also worth noting that HONOR devices will also get its very own Android Q-based software, Magic UI 3.0. The HONOR V20 and Magic 2 will get this build in September, in China.
HONOR had also confirmed that the following smartphones will get Magic UI 3.0: HONOR 20, 20 Pro, 20i / 20 Lite, View20 / V20, 10, 10 Lite, and 8X. Do note that all of this info applies to Chinese models, UI builds for global models will be a bit different, and will have different release timeframes.
