According to Neowin, Huawei actually confirmed that the Huawei Mate X will be fueled by the Kirin 990. The Huawei Mate X was introduced back in February, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC), though it was shown with the Kirin 980 on the inside.
Folks over at Neowin spent some time with the Huawei Mate X in Shenzhen recently, and that device is fueled by the Kirin 990. The Huawei Mate X is Huawei’s very first foldable smartphone, as most of you know.
That handset was supposed to become available already, but several delays took place in the last couple of months. According to the latest piece of information that appeared, the device will not become available until November.
The Kirin 990, for those of you who do not know, is Huawei’s upcoming flagship processor. That chip is expected to launch on September 19, alongside the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro flagships.
Those two devices will almost certainly arrive on that date and ship with the Kirin 990. The company may opt to introduce the Kirin 990 a bit sooner, though. Whatever the case may be, we do have some info regarding the Kirin 990.
The source claims that the Kirin 990 will support 4K video capture at 60fps. This is something that the Kirin 980 did not support, so it will be a considerable upgrade. The Kirin 990 will probably be a 64-bit octa-core processor, and it will bring a number of other improvements. The chip is expected to draw less power from the battery, and considerably improve performance over the Kirin 980.
More Kirin 990 information is expected to surface in the coming weeks, as the launch date for the chip is coming closer. The Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro are both considered to be Huawei’s upcoming flagship phones. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro will be the more powerful one, though.
Both phones will be made out of metal and glass, while Leica’s lenses will once again be included in Huawei’s flagships. The Kirin 990 will fuel both of those phones, while Android Q aka Android 10 will come pre-installed on them. Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 10 will ship on top of Google’s operating system.
Huawei’s periscope-like camera is expected to make a comeback with the Mate 30 series phones, an improvement over the P30 Pro’s offering. Both the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro are actually expected to offer such camera features this time around.
Huawei will hopefully remove both notches and display holes with the Mate 30 series, even though leaks are suggesting otherwise. The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro could still include a display notch, or something of the sort. That means that the company will not opt for a pop-up camera, or anything similar to that.
We still did not see a truly legit leak of the Mate 30 or the Mate 30 Pro. We’ll have to wait a bit in order to be (at least somewhat) sure. Whatever the case may be, the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro are coming soon. Those two devices will take the mantle from the P30 and P30 Pro.
