Smartphone listing by Amazon Germany, which has now been taken down, has leaked almost everything there is to know about the rumored Motorola One Action. And not just that, the listing has also provided an early glimpse of the device.
Per the listing, the Motorola One Action will sport a display with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2520 x 1080. It may actually end up being a 6.3-inch display, just like the Motorola One Vision’s. The screen has a hole in the top left corner to house the selfie camera, which will apparently be a 13-megapixel camera.
Strangely, instead of using a Qualcomm-made chipset, Motorola has opted for Samsung’s Exynos 9609 SoC. The mid-tier silicon is basically an underclocked version of the Exynos 9610. As can be gleaned from the logo at the back, the Motorola One Action is a part of Google’s Android One program, which means it will run the vanilla version of the Android 9 Pie. The phone will pack in a 3,500mAh capacity cell and 15W fast charging will also be supported. The handset will also have a USB Type-C port and a headphone jack.
On the camera front, you get a primary 13-megapixel sensor, in addition to two other units. One of the highlights of the phone is the 117° ultra wide-angle camera, which has been dubbed Action Cam, because of its lens. Usually, professional action cameras feature such lenses, which explains the name of the unit. The third camera will presumably be a depth sensor.
The One Action will apparently be available in three memory configurations. The model with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard memory that was listed in Amazon will cost €299 or $335. Other than that, there will likely be a variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory and one version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage.
Needless to say, these models will be cheaper than the maxed out variant. According to Amazon, the phone will be released on September 13, presumably after getting announced at IFA in Berlin.
It’s no secret that Motorola hasn’t been doing well in the smartphone market. Although it remains popular in the US and even managed to grow in the country, thanks to its Moto G series and Moto E lineup, the company’s smartphones are sinking in popularity in many other markets.
The Moto One series is being billed as a premiere line with various models at different price points. The Motorola One Vision actually received a decent response at the market, thanks to its performance and camera. However, since its 48-megapixel primary camera will apparently be replaced with 13-megapixel sensors on the One Action, it will be interesting to see how the upcoming phone fares on the camera side.
Given the alleged $335 price tag of the Motorola One Action, it’s just slightly cheaper than the Pixel 3a, which has helped Google with struggling sales, thanks to its camera prowess. If the One Action builds upon the success of the One Vision, it might prove to be a worthy competitor to Google’s mid-range phone.
