The Motorola One Zoom, whose name is a not-so-subtle hint as to its capabilities, now has leaked specs to tech site 91mobiles by what the site says is “a reliable source.”
Remember the Motorola One Pro with its quad-camera setup (four rear cameras)? Well, for some reason, Motorola has rebranded it the “Motorola One Zoom.” The “Zoom” name is perhaps a dead giveaway to the camera specs, helping consumers see the real standout feature on this upcoming smartphone.
The reliable source says that the upcoming handset will feature a 6.2-inch display, though some had the display of the formerly-branded Motorola One Pro at 6.1 inches earlier on. The screen resolution will be 2340 x 1080p, what many refer to as “FullHD+.” Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 SoC will be present, and the device will come in 4GB/6GB RAM variants and 64GB/128GB storage variants. A 4,000mAh battery will keep the lights on, and Near Field Communication (NFC) for mobile payments is present, too.
Other features of the Motorola One Zoom include an in-display fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C charging, with a waterdrop notch design. The in-display fingerprint sensor is necessary biometric authentication nowadays.
The 3.5mm headphone jack will be appreciated by fans of this handset, as will the 4,000mAh battery and USB Type-C charging for fast wired charging. Winfuture industry tipster Roland Quandt says the Motorola One Zoom could offer 5x hybrid zoom when it lands later this year.
Hybrid zoom is significant for the “One Zoom” (you can see where the name comes from, right?) because it’s better than traditional digital zoom in the results it achieves. It isn’t as good as optical zoom, but it gets you closer to the image you want. Huawei used hybrid zoom in its P20 and now its P30 series, with a technology called Super Resolution that lets you look at a given frame in two or more images.
The result is that, by localizing sub-pixels in hybrid zoom, one gets better detail for photos than normal. The “hybrid” in “hybrid zoom” is a giveaway label; photographers can do better with a combination of technologies in zoom rather than the basic digital zoom.
The major feature of the Motorola One Zoom will be the “Zoom,” with camera expectations high for this device. To this end, Motorola has provided four rear cameras on the One Zoom: a 48MP main sensor, 12MP secondary shooter, along with an 8MP third camera (perhaps a telephoto lens), and then a fourth that is shrouded in mystery at the moment. It could be a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor, as that seems to be the preferred fourth-camera trend for smartphone makers in Android these days.
The Motorola Ome Zoom’s quad rear camera setup sounds something similar to expectations for the Galaxy Note 10 Plus model, as it is expected to feature four rear cameras, including a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor.
The front-facing camera on the One Zoom is “suggested” to be 16MP, though 91mobiles’s reliable source couldn’t verify the MP count for the selfie camera.
The Motorola One Zoom is expected to be unveiled at IFA 2019 in Berlin, Germany next month with a price tag of €429, Rs. 34,000, or $478.82 USD. It will likely head to India first, before it hits Europe and other countries.
