OnePlus has started pushing out new stable updates for four of its devices, the OnePlus 3, 3T, 5, and 5T. In the case of the OnePlus 3 and 3T, we’re looking at the OxygenOS 9.0.5 update, while the OnePlus 5 and 5T are receiving OxygenOS 9.0.8.
These are not really groundbreaking updates, as they do not really pack any major features, but the company did include quite a few fixes and optimizations in these updates, while it also decided to up the ante in the security department as well.
In the case of the OnePlus 3 and 3T, both devices will receive Android security patch for August with this update, a patch that landed on the OnePlus 7 Pro not long ago. In addition to that, the company also listed general bug fixes and improvements here. The changelog for the OnePlus 3 and 3T is shorter than the one for the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
Speaking of which, OxygenOS 9.0.8 update brings that very same security patch to the OnePlus 5 and 5T as well. On top of that, the company decided to optimize the process of taking screenshots, which is not smoother and faster.
Zen Mode on the OnePlus 5 and 5T has also been improved, as OnePlus optimized visual effects in the app, while it also added the additional settings to select the duration of time Zen Mode will be active. This has been a highly-requested feature by OnePlus’ users, as it seems people like Zen Mode, but wanted to be able to customize the duration it’s being active.
On top of everything we’ve mentioned for the OxygenOS 9.0.8 update, general bug fixes and stability improvements are also listed here. This is pretty much a part of every update, as the company is constantly working to improve the stability of its software.
Having said that, both of these updates are already rolling out, but not to everyone. This is a staged update, and the company has opted to push out the update to a limited number of users first, and will make it available to everyone after a couple of days, after it makes sure additional bugs did not find their way to the software.
You can always try to update your phone via a VPN, if you simply cannot wait to get it, but we cannot guarantee that will work. There is always an option of flashing the update manually, but if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing, that’s not such a great idea, it’s better to sit tight for a couple of days, the update will arrive sooner or later.
It’s nice to see that OnePlus is still updating some of its older devices. The OnePlus 3 and 3T were introduced back in 2016, three years ago, while the OnePlus 5 and 5T arrived a year later, in 2017. All four of those devices are running Android 9 Pie, by the way, as they received that update a while back.
OnePlus’ smartphones are expected to be amongst the first to get Android Q later this year, though the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro will be first in line, of course. The rest of the pack may need to wait until early 2020, we’ll see.
