OPPO Smartwatch Coming In 2020, Company's VP Confirms

OPPO has managed to grow a lot in the last couple of years. It’s currently one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in China. This company had introduced quite a few compelling smartphones in the last couple of years, and it seems like it’s ready to unveil a smartwatch as well.

This information comes directly from the company’s VP, Shen Yiren. He has confirmed this via Weibo (Chinese social media network), while offering little explanation. Mr. Yiren said that OPPO plans to launch this smartwatch next year, in 2020.

He did not say whether Android will come pre-installed on OPPO smartwatch, nor whether it will be available outside of China. The company did start expanding to parts of Europe recently, so it’s possible. It is even possible it ships with Wear OS in Europe, and something different in China. We’ll see, these are only wild guesses.

Mr. YIren did confirm that a smartwatch is coming, but that’s not all. He also said that OPPO is planning to release noise-canceling headphones by the end of 2019. Those headphones will hopefully be more affordable than alternatives from well-known companies like Sony.

That is more or less all the information that OPPO’s VP shared at this time. He did not specify when in 2020 will this smartwatch arrive, unfortunately. It may land in the first quarter, or at the very end of the year, we’ll see.

OPPO’s latest flagship, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom, managed to grab a lot of attention. That device offers extremely thin bezels, and the so-called shark fin pop-up camera. The phone offers insane zooming capabilities thanks to a periscope style camera, similar to the Huawei P30 Pro.

The design of the phone is also spot-on, while its specifications are definitely high end. It is equipped with the Snapdragon 855, 8GB of RAM, 48-megapixel main camera, and a 4,065mAh battery.

The phone did reach quite a few markets thus far, but it’s still not as available as OPPO would like. The company will almost certainly continue pushing towards expanding the availability of its products to more regions. OPPO is very well-known in China, but it has to expand its horizons in order to grow further.

The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom also came in a regular variant, that variant is called the OPPO Reno. The OPPO Reno is a mid-range alternative to the 10x Zoom edition, and it offers an almost identical design.

OPPO is one of those companies that tend to bring innovation to the table. The company innovated quite a bit in the smartphone sector in the last couple of years, and it remains to be seen what comes next. Vivo has been testing under-display cameras, and OPPO is probably doing the same. These are sister companies, after all, and OnePlus is thrown in the mix as well. All three companies are owned by BBK Electronics.

OnePlus probably won’t be the first to include an under-display camera in a smartphone, so it will either be Vivo or OPPO. Xiaomi is also not out of the picture when it comes to such tech, as it is also working on an under-display camera. Tech aficionados are eager to see such tech in a smartphone, so that will hopefully happen in the near future.
