Samsung has partnered up with sports apparel giant Under Armour for a special edition version of the Galaxy Watch Active 2 dubbed the Under Armour Edition. This is according to a newly leaked image from Evan Blass that shows of the watch in two different colors along with the Under Armour logo and the name of the watch.
Nothing is known about the Under Armour Edition of the Galaxy Watch Active 2 other than some details with the strap and the fact that it will be releasing alongside or sometime shortly after the original model. Based on the image the Under Armour Edition will come with a special strap that carries UA branding on it and the strap will be available in silicone in Black and Gray colors, while the watch case itself will be Black for both options and won’t change.
With no details on the watch other than what can be seen it’s unclear if the Under Armour model will be different in any way, but it’s likely to be the same in just about every respect as the standard Galaxy Watch Active 2 models since they’re both fitness-focused.
If there are any differences between the regular model of the watch and the Under Armour Edition, the Under Armour Edition could come with Under Armour apps installed directly on it out of the box, and there could be watch faces that are designed to work in tandem with these apps while also giving off a UA aesthetic to match the theme of the watch.
For example, you can see the Under Armour log on the watch face being used in the graphic, so this suggests that there will be at least one watch face with the UA logo on it, though there will probably be more than one so users have choices for customization.
Samsung has confirmed that it will be officially announcing the Galaxy Watch Active 2 on Monday, August 5, at a special pre event that is happening before its annual Unpacked event, which this year will take place on August 7 and be where the company announces the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 smartphone.
Samsung has not yet announced any official details of the Galaxy Watch Active 2, so there’s no word on pricing or when the watch will officially launch. Samsung is announcing the Galaxy Watch Active this coming Monday but that doesn’t mean that it will announce the pricing details (it probably will, though), it’s also unclear if the Galaxy Watch Active 2 Under Armour Edition will be announced at the same time or if it will have the same price as the regular model.
Unless there is something special about the Under Armour Edition that the regular version of the watch doesn’t have, chances are the prices will be the same, and the only thing that will probably drive the prices up are additional straps and straps of different types of materials like leather or metal compared to the more sporty silicone that will be probably be the base option, as these are “Active” watches after all. The straps will probably be swappable too, if you feel the need to change the strap based on the occasion.
