TCL, a name that you might not associate much with the mobile market, is preparing to show off some more foldable device concepts at IFA next week in Berlin.
The company showed off a few different foldable device concepts at Mobile World Congress back in late-February. And now they have a few more concepts that should be closer to a real consumer product, to show off at IFA next week.
TCL is planning to launch some foldable devices in 2020, however no specific date nor product has been confirmed by the company.
On top of that, it’s planning its own branded smartphone launch for IFA.
TCL won’t be known for just TVs anymore
Known for its TVs, TCL is looking to make a big splash in the mobile market this year. Even though it’s technically been in the mobile market for quite some time already.
TCL owns a few different smartphone brands, like Alcatel and BlackBerry. Which are the brands it uses to sell its smartphones in Western markets like the US. But TCL actually sells its own branded phones in China already.
Now, TCL is looking to leverage that brand for its smartphone business, instead of relying on Alcatel and BlackBerry, brands that haven’t been hugely popular for TCL in recent years.
Recently, we saw some specs for this smartphone, thanks to a leaked roadmap. So it looks like it’ll be called the TCL T1, with a 6.53-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 675 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. All of this powered by a pretty hefty 3820mAh capacity battery inside.
TCL’s latest foldable display concepts include Project Archery
Where things get really interesting is with Project Archery. This is supposedly a wearable display from TCL.
There’s not a lot of information about this device yet, but the company says that the device can deliver a 100-inch viewing experience in a gadget the size of most sunglasses. So it’s not really a smartwatch or fitness tracker like most of us thought it might be. But it does definitely have our attention.
TCL will be showing these off at IFA 2019 next week, when the show kicks off in Berlin on September 6. It’s going to be interesting to see what else the company has to show.
IFA is typically where most smartphones and other gadgets are announced, ahead of the holiday shopping season. So expect to see new smartphones, tablets, laptops, TVs and much more coming out of Berlin next week.
