LG has officially announced the G8X ThinQ accompanied by a newer version of its LG Dual Screen attachment.
According to LG, it looked at customer feedback from the original Dual Screen and applied some of it to the new model. A brand-new 2.1-inch cover display is one of those improvements.
With this new display on the outside of the Dual Screen, users can view notifications and more. Think of it like the screen on the outside of the S View Flip Covers.
LG G8X ThinQ: tailor-made for the Dual Screen device
LG’s G8X ThinQ really is tailor-made for the new Dual Screen. It comes with the same size display as the one on the inside of the attachment. Which is 6.4-inches.
In fact both are using the same exact FHD + OLED FullVision panel with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Beyond the display, the LG G8X ThinQ comes powered by Snapdragon 855 processor. It also has 6GB of RAM as well as 128GB of internal storage.
LG has implemented an in-screen fingerprint sensor with this phone, which it says makes it much easier to unlock when the Dual Screen is attached. This is because the new Dual Screen has a 360-degree hinge that can wrap all the way around to sit flat under the back of the phone.
This would end up covering a rear fingerprint sensor, hence the reason for adding it under the phone’s display.
Since the displays on both the phone and the Dual Screen are the same size and quality, LG also boasts that it “doubles productivity and fun” but without compromising on clarity. If you’ve ever wanted your phone to feel like a Nintendo 3DS, this is the phone you pick.
BIG camera focus with little compromise
Each and every year smartphone brands boast better and better cameras. The LG 8X ThinQ continues this trend. It’s got a 32-megapixel front sensor with “Reflector Mode” which LG claims will help keep selfie shots clearer without losing sharpness.
On the back, it features a dual camera system with a 12-megapixel main sensor and a 13-megapixel wide angle sensor for fitting more in the picture.
You can expect plenty of LG’s more recent camera tricks in the software too. Like 4K Timelapse, AI Action Shot, and LG Steady Cam.
Remaining specs make for a well-rounded device
While most of the specs are nothing bleeding edge, they still make for a well-rounded device. In addition to the above-mentioned Snapdragon 855 processor, it has a 4,000mAh battery, stereo speakers, support for microSD cards up to 2TB in size, and it runs on Android 9 Pie.
LG also made the device water-resistant with an IP68 rating just in case of mishaps. The phone will come in one color, Aurora Black, which will match the color of the new Dual Screen.
LG hasn’t announced any official release date or pricing information, but it does note the G8X ThinQ and the new Dual Screen will launch sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.
