Despite the quietness surrounding the Motorola Razr lately, it’s still expected to debut by the end of 2019.
This is according to CNET, who spoke with someone familiar with the situation.
The Motorola Razr missed its anticipated Summer 2019 release date, but it is still expected to launch before the end of the year. Which would make Motorola the latest manufacturer to jump into the foldable space.
This means that every manufacturer that has a foldable phone, has seen a delayed launch for their foldable phone. Definitely showing that these phones are still very early.
The Motorola Razr reboot we all want to see
Since launching the Razr in the early 2000s and making it the company’s most popular phone ever, it has tried to reboot it before, but failed. The Motorola Droid Razr did not do as well as Motorola had hoped it would.
Now it’s looking to reboot it as a foldable phone. And we’re all for it. It would be like the flip phone Razr, but inside it would be all screen. This sounds like a much better concept than the Huawei Mate X or the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Which goes from being a large phone to a small tablet. This would be a small phone that opens up to a larger one.
Motorola is likely not the only company working on a foldable phone that is a clamshell, they are just the only ones to actually talk about it publicly.
This could be the comeback of flip phones.
Foldable phones are tough to make
As we’ve seen from Huawei and Samsung, foldable phones are pretty tough to make right now. The tech is all very new, and it’s a very first-generation product. Which means there are going to be issues.
So it makes sense that the Motorola Razr did not hit its Summer 2019 reveal that it had planned to do. And that’s a good thing for Motorola. It cannot afford to have the same luck that Samsung has had with the Galaxy Fold. Motorola is a much smaller company, and that would likely bankrupt them.
It’s important to note the language that CNET is using in its report here. That the Motorola Razr will debut before the end of 2019. That means that Motorola will likely announce it, or tease it in a video or press release before the end of the year. It’s very unlikely that it would go on sale before the end of 2019.
Especially seeing as we are very close to the holiday season, and companies want their devices ready for the holiday season so people snap them up in their holiday shopping.
