The OnePlus 7T is OnePlus’ newest smartphones, and much like its predecessors, it does not offer wireless charging. Pete Lau, the company’s CEO, explained why that is the case.
During the company’s roundtable press conference, post the OnePlus 7T launch, Pete Lau offered an explanation why it does not include wireless charging. Mr. Lau said that OnePlus “toyed around with the idea”, but wanted to stay true to the “Never Settle” moto.
The company wants its wireless charging to be up to “Warp Charge standard”
OnePlus wants its wireless charging to be up to the Warp Charge standard. That doesn’t really mean just as far as Warp Charge, as heating issues also need to be addressed. Mr. Lau admitted that the company’s wireless charging is running a bit too warm.
According to the source, OnePlus is actually testing 30W wireless charging. So, we can expect wireless charging to become a part of OnePlus’ devices in the future, but it remains to be seen when.
The OnePlus 7T does not support wireless charging, but its wired charging is great
For reference, the OnePlus 7T does support Warp Charge 30T fast wired charging. This is OnePlus’ very own wired charging solution, and it is 23-percent faster than Warp Charge 30. This charging tech can charge up the OnePlus 7T from 0 to 100-percent in an hour.
It can get the phone from 0 to 70-percent in only half an hour, which is also impressive. The OnePlus 7T has a 3,800mAh battery, by the way.
The OnePlus 7T is lauded to be the phone the OnePlus 7 should have been. Not only is it considerably more affordable than direct competition, but it also offers most of the features included on the OnePlus 7 Pro.
The OnePlus 7T Pro is expected to arrive next month, on October 10, during European OnePlus 7T series launch. That handset will also not support wireless charging, based on Pete Lau’s comments. OnePlus’ wireless charging is obviously not ready yet, so we’ll have to wait.
The OnePlus 8 will hopefully be the first phone to debut OnePlus’ wireless charging
OnePlus’ wireless charging may debut with the OnePlus 8 next year. If the company ends up sticking to its release cycle, the OnePlus 8 series will arrive in May.
Wireless charging is the main feature missing from OnePlus’ smartphones, at least according to most critics. That is the feature that is always mentioned when “negatives” of OnePlus’ phones are mentioned. Regular users probably don’t care as much, but OnePlus’ phones are still purchased mostly by enthusiasts, so such comments are understandable.
The OnePlus 7T is made out of metal and glass. The device features a smaller waterdrop notch than the OnePlus 7. It is fueled by the Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC, and it comes with 8GB of RAM.
The device includes a 6.55-inch fullHD+ Fluid AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The device includes three cameras on the back, and it ships with Android 10 and OxygenOS 10. If you’d like to know more, click here.
