OnePlus TV will offer improved audio, according to an Amazon India page listing.
The Amazon page does not give too much away but does confirm OnePlus TV draws on eight speakers for its output. Apparently, this will result in a 50-watt output overall.
The page listing also reconfirms some of the previously reported features, such as a 55-inch 4K QLED display.
Premium audio to match the premium OnePlus experience
OnePlus has made it clear it wants to offer a premium TV product. Even if that also means a premium price.
This was explained as a premium viewing experience coupled with a premium user experience. The latter the result of a “unique” Android TV version.
Now it looks like OnePlus intends to add to the premium nature through the audio, including the bass. The Amazon teaser notes how this 50-watt output includes a “punchy bass to fill your living room.”
Bass has always been an issue for TV sets due to the size of the speakers typically found within a TV. As a means to circumvent this, OnePlus has added eight speakers to its TV. Although it remains to be seen how this alone will greatly improve the bass.
Yes, more speakers might mean some improved bass, but that’s not to say it will be greatly improved. Better bass requires larger-sized speakers and this is why consumers are often pointed towards a separate subwoofer to up their bass game.
OnePlus TV to offer cinematic sound
Besides the claimed improved bass, OnePlus TV is also looking to improve the audio through the use of Dolby Atmos. According to the teaser, this will result in a “cinematic sound space right in your living room.”
Dolby Atmos is a feature that typically relies on directional audio. In short, Dolby Atmos takes the focus away from separate channels and attempts to direct sound towards the user from different directions. For example, overhead sounds can be heard over head.
Evidently, this works best if the speaker setup is physically designed to match those directions. Again, for example, having speakers placed overhead to account for overhead sounds. OnePlus TV wont’t do this, but it doesn’t need to for an improved listening experience in general.
8 speakers cater to Dolby Atmos
Dolby Atmos is almost certainly the reason why OnePlus has opted for eight speakers. Dolby Atmos works best when there are more speakers in use. While this is best served when the speakers are strategically positioned, devices can provide a similar experience when all the speakers are housed and positioned in the same unit.
This is achieved by having the speakers face different directions. While some face forward, others face up, down or to the side. This directional approach allows the device to throw the signal in that direction and have it bounce off nearby walls or the ceiling, before bouncing back toward the listener.
