Evan Blass Shows Off The Huawei MatePad Pro Tablet

Earlier this month, 91mobiles shared some renders of Huawei‘s upcoming tablet. In that article, it mentioned that we’re looking at the MediaPad M7, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Evan Blass shared a new render of the device, and it simply wrote ‘MatePad Pro’ in addition to that.

So, it seems like that tablet will be called the MatePad Pro, and not the MediaPad M7, at least in some markets. Mr. Blass did not share an explanation along with that, so we can only guess.

This render gives us a good look a the Huawei MatePad Pro

Mr. Blass’ render gives us a better look at the MatePad Pro. It shows off the device itself, its keyboard attachment, and a stylus as well.

As you can see, this tablet will ship with a frame made out of metal, and it’s quite possible its back may also be made out of metal. Renders which 91mobiles shared are quite small, so it’s either metal or glass, but it looks more like metal.

In any case, this device will include a display camera hole in the top-right corner, from a portrait perspective. A power / lock key will be placed right above that display hole, or at least that seems to be the case. A physical key is placed there, and it looks like a power / lock key, but we’re still not sure if that is the case or not.

That seems to be a rather odd place to put a power / lock key. One would expect it to be included on the right-hand side of this tablet, from a portrait perspective.

The device includes fairly thin bezels, though not as thin as on smartphones, which is understandable. Releasing a tablet with thinner bezels than this, and you’d have some serious issues holding it without interacting with the display accidentally.

That keyboard attachment is magnetic, and the stylus’ name will be the ‘M-Pen’. A Type-C USB port will be placed on the bottom of the device, while it will be flanked by speaker grilles.

The device will arrive in Black and White color options

The device will be available in Black and White color variants, both of which had been shown by 91mobiles. We’re not sure if any additional colors will arrive, but that’s not that likely.

We’re still not sure what will this device bring in the spec department. 91mobiles suggested that the Kirin 990 64-bit octa-core processor will be a part of the package. In addition to that, it also mentioned 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and a ‘large battery’.

Those specs suggest this will be a high-end tablet, which is possible. Its name does suggest that something of the sort, though companies use the term ‘Pro’ on pretty much everything these days, so who knows.

We still do not know when will this device become official, though. The MediaPad M6 was announced 4-5 months ago, so it probably won’t be a direct successor to that device. A different name scheme also suggests a completely different direction for the MatePad Pro.
