Just a couple of weeks after showing up at Best Buy and B&H Photo for pre-order, the Motorola One Action is now available to buy in the US from Amazon for $50 less than its retail cost. That discount puts the price at $299.99 and shipping is free. That’s the same price offered at B&H Photo, while Best Buy had the phone listed at $350.
The recently spotted listing touts the device in a Denim Blue. Amazon lists the handset as coming complete with a US warranty and compatibility with nearly every regional carrier. Specifically, the retail giant’s site shows this phone will work with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost, Cricket, and Metro.
What to expect from the Motorola One Action in the US
The phone itself, while a bit deceptive in naming since it isn’t an Android One device in the US but is elsewhere, is a solid mid-ranger.
Underneath a near-stock iteration of Android 9 Pie, Motorola built this 6.3-inch handset around Samsung’s octa-core 2.2GHz Exynos 9609 chipset. Behind that, the company packed in 4GB of memory and 128GB of expandable storage. That supports up to 1TB via a microSD card.
The screen itself is another highlight of the Motorola One Action. It comes with a Full HD+ CinemaVision display. The OEM set that at a taller-than-average ratio of 21:9. At the top-left-hand corner of the nearly-bezel-free panel is a 12-megapixel front-facing camera.
A 3,500mAh capacity battery underpins all of the hardware and should provide most users with at least a day of use on a single charge.
Setting aside those specifications, the real star in the Motorola One Action — as its name implies — is its AI-powered cameras. Not least of those features is its 16-megapixel 117-degree FoV ultra-wide primary sensor. Motorola claims that the quad-pixel-enhanced camera is wide enough to capture landscape video even while holding the phone in a more comfortable portrait configuration.
The camera features a 2um pixel size and support for 21:9, 18:9, and 16:9 ratios. So it can capture cinematic scenes in for just about any medium even in low light situations.
Backing up the main snapper, Motorola includes a 12-megapixel f/1.8 aperture lens with a 1.25um pixel size and a 5-megapixel depth-sensing lens. That should equate to great photography and cinematographic experiences that go well beyond the standard mid-range fare.
Demin Blue isn’t the only color option
Amazon may only be selling the Denim Blue variant of Motorola’s camera-focused One Action. But users can also pick up the device in Pearl White from B&H Photo, Amazon, or Best Buy.
The latter of those also seems to be the only location that isn’t selling the device at a $50 discount. It’s not clear why Best Buy isn’t offering Motorola’s discount on the handset. However, it may or may not come down to convenience since it might be possible to pick up the device early in person. Whether that’s true is undoubtedly going to vary from store to store but could mean a quicker purchase for some users.
Whether or not that’s worth the extra money is going to be more subjective.
