OnePlus Not Planning To Announce Another Mid-Range Phone: CEO

OnePlus’ CEO, Pete Lau, was briefly interviewed in China recently. Information from that interview surfaced on the ‘ifeng’ website. The main piece of information that Mr. Lau shared regards the company’s plans for OnePlus mid-range smartphones.

OnePlus is not planning to announce a mid-range smartphone

Mr. Lau confirmed that OnePlus has no plans to announce another mid-range smartphone. As most of you probably remember, OnePlus did announce one mid-range thus far, the OnePlus X. That handset was announced along with the OnePlus 2 back in 2015.

The OnePlus X did not really do all that well in the market. That is the main reason why OnePlus decided to ditch mid-rangers altogether, and focus on the high-end market.

Mr. Lau did not really elaborate further on his answer, he just confirmed that a mid-ranger is not coming. Well, it’s not coming for now, at least.

70% of OnePlus’ business comes from overseas markets

In addition to that. Pete Lau said that that OnePlus has no plans to launch physical stores in China. He also shared some insight into OnePlus’ sales. It seems like more than 70-percent of the company’s business comes from overseas markets. The 30-percent (approximately), comes from China, its homeland, of course.

OnePlus is focused on increasing its market share at the moment, and it seems like the company’s leadership doesn’t think a mid-range phone would help the matter.

The company is planning to focus more on Artificial Intelligence (AI) moving forward. Mr. Lau thinks that AI will be extremely important in the coming decade, which is why OnePlus needs to focus on it.

The OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro arrived recently

Both September and October were quite exciting months for both the company and its consumers. OnePlus initially announced the OnePlus 7T in India on September 26. That device got re-announced in Europe on October 10, in addition to two additional phones.

In addition to the OnePlus 7T, the company also unveiled the OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition. Those devices got launched during an event in London.

The OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro have been made available for purchase today, in Europe. The OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition will go on sale on November 4, for those of you who are interested. If you’d like to know more, click here.

The OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro are both made out of metal and glass, but they offer a different design. The OnePlus 7T is smaller, and it comes with a flat display. On top of that, it has a tiny notch, and a round camera setup on the back.

The OnePlus 7T Pro, on the other hand, doesn’t have a notch or a display hole. This phone utilizes a pop-up camera, much like the OnePlus 7 Pro. Both devices are fueled by the Snapdragon 855 Plus 64-bit octa-core processor. Both ship with Android 10, and include 8GB of RAM.
