During the unveiling of its latest flagship today in London, OnePlus announced that the relatively older OnePlus 5 will also be getting Android 10. The company has also uploaded a tentative schedule on its website, highlighting the plan for OxygenOS 10.0 rollout which is based on Android 10.
This Year’s OnePlus Devices Were One Of The First Ones To Get Android 10
The OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro will ship with the latest version of Android. As for the OnePlus 7 series that was launched five months back, it’s already on Android 10.
In fact, the Chinese company was pretty swift in this regard, shipping out a beta update to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro on September 3, the same day it was officially released. After a few days, the stable version was rolled out.
Compared to most of its competitors, OnePlus has a good track record when it comes to updates. Moreover, the OnePlus 7T is the first phone to ship with Android 10. This is surprising since the latest version of Android has been out for two months now.
Even HMD Global, which is the fastest when it comes to updates, sold its recent devices with Android 9 Pie.
Thus, we can count on OnePlus to stick to its schedule. That is if something unexpected doesn’t come up. After all, as the vendor mentions on its forum, software development and testing require attention to detail
The company plans to work with its partners such as Sprint, T-Mobile, and EE to deliver the best experience. If there are any changes in the timeline, OnePlus says it will notify its customers.
OnePlus 5T To Get A OxygenOS 10.0 Next Year
The OnePlus 6T, 6, 5T, and 5 are the older phones that will get Android 10 based OxygenOS 10.0. Before the end of this month, the OnePlus 6 and 6T users can expect to get the open beta and the official release is slated for November. The owners of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will have to wait a little longer, as a rollout is planned for Q2 2020.
On the bright side, they will directly get the stable update. It goes without saying that the OnePlus 3 and 3T will not be getting Android 10. The phones were released in 2015, and are on Android 9 right now.
With Android 10 based OxygenOS 10.0, OnePlus owners will get plenty of exciting new features such as new interface design, full-screen gestures, a new app called Game Space, and a spam blocker.
Unlike other smartphone users, OnePlus owners will not care too much about the dark theme. That’s because OnePlus has already added a dark mode to its phones.
OxygenOS is one of the best Android skins around. It’s a lot like stock Android but with useful additions such as the App locker, which provides extra security, and the Parallel Apps feature, which is great for people who have more than one account on platforms like WhatsApp.
All in all, the company sure seems to be going in the right direction. Every year, it churns out affordable phones with the most in-demand features and then elevates the experience by remaining committed to timely software updates.
