The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 flagship may arrive this year after all. So, things got pretty confusing lately, regarding the launch of this smartphone. Let’s start from the top.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 and Mi MIX Alpha were both expected to arrive on September 24. That did not happen, however, as only the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha arrived. That device features a wrap-around display, and is completely different to everything we’ve seen thus far in terms of smartphones.
There is a reason the Mi MIX 4 did not arrive along with the Mi MIX Alpha
Considering how different this “concept” phone is, it’s understandable that Xiaomi did not announce the Mi MIX 4. That device would probably be overshadowed by the Mi MIX Alpha, as the Mi 9 Pro 5G did.
Having said that, several leakers suggested that the Mi MIX 4 will still launch, though. Pretty much everyone expected it will arrive in 2019, until one of Xiaomi’s execs hinted otherwise, or so we thought.
A listing on JD.com aka JingDong Mall in China suggested that the phone will launch by the end of October. That listing surfaced at the end of last month.
That very same day, Xiaomi China’s brand promotion manager, Edward Bishop, seemingly confirmed that the phone will not arrive in 2019.
Well, Mr. Bishop’s statement seems to have been misinterpreted, or something of the sort. He went to Weibo (Chinese social media network) once again, according to GizmoChina, to clear things up.

He basically said that he never meant to confirm that the phone isn’t coming this year. Mr. Bishop also said that he’s not saying it is coming this year. So, he basically did not confirm anything, and the Mi MIX 4 flagship launch is still up in the air.
If we had to guess, though, we’d say that the phone will arrive by the end of the year. JD.com’s listing may even be accurate, in fact. The device may arrive by the end of October.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha is quite an exciting phone, but due to its low-scale production, and enormous price tag, it’s definitely not a phone for the general consumer.
Xiaomi did introduce the Mi 9 Pro 5G with the Mi MIX Alpha, but that device is just a revised Mi 9. That phone is also not for everyone, and Xiaomi will want to freshen up its flagship lineup with the Mi MIX 4 this year, at least that’s our guess.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is expected to sport extremely thin bezels. The phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 Plus, it will include plenty of RAM, and ship with Android 10 and MIUI 10. It will include at least three cameras on the back, and considering the lack of leaks, we may even be surprised.
