Ulefone has just announced that it plans to release its very first 5G rugged smartphone in 2020. The company believes that its phone will be the very first 5G rugged device in the world, but it remains to be seen.
The very first 5G rugged smartphone from Ulefone will ship with the MediaTek’s SoC
Ulefone also confirmed that the device will be fueled by the Dimensity 1000, MediaTek’s very first 5G processor. Ulefone did not clarify when can we expect its smartphone to become official, but it will hopefully arrive in the first quarter.
As a reminder, Ulefone did plan to release the Ulefone Armor 6 5G variant, but it never reached the market. The company says that it did not arrive as the MediaTek M70 5G modem never launched.
The MediaTek Dimensity is essentially the third 5G processor out there. It is made using TSMC’s 7nm manufacturing process, and it comes with the latest ARM Cortex-A77 cores which operate at up to 2.6GHz.
That processor packs in the Mali-G77 GPU, and it supports fullHD+ displays, and up to 120Hz refresh rate. It can also support QHD+ displays up to 90Hz.
The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 support NSA/SA 5G networks and 5G two-carrier aggregation (2CC CA). It will be able to provide downlink/uplink speeds of up to 4.7Gbps/2.5Gbps over sub-6GHz networks.
This is the world’s first 5G processor that supports dual 5G SIM dual standby, and it also comes with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1+. On top of everything, this chip supports 80-megapixel camera sensors, and a range of multi-camera options.
Ulefone is expected to share more information soon
Ulefone did not share any additional details regarding its upcoming 5G rugged smartphone. The company is expected to share more information soon, though.
The company did release quite a few rugged phones this year, some of which are really compelling. The Armor 7 is one of Ulefone’s most recent rugged devices, and one of the company’s most powerful offerings as well.
That device is fueled by the Helio P90 processor, which also comes from MediaTek. The device supports 4G connectivity, and includes three cameras on the back.
That phone also sports a 5,500mAh battery, and 8GB of RAM on the inside. On top of everything, it comes with a large display, and it is IP68/IP69k and MIL-STD-810G certified.
The very first 5G rugged smartphone from Ulefone will almost certainly include a large display, and a large battery as well. It is also expected to offer the same rugged certifications as the Armor 7.
