Google has started pushing out the December security patch to its Pixel phones. This is the very last update that will hit the device until the end of the year.
It is worth noting that all existing Pixel phones are receiving this update as we speak, except the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. The company noted that those two devices will get this update next week.
Do note that this is the very last update that will arrive to the original Pixel phones. The Pixel and Pixel XL are getting cut off at this point.
December security patch for Pixel phones resolves 15 issues
This security patch resolves 15 security issues. These vulnerabilities range from moderate to critical, and the most critical one relates to the media framework, and a remote attacker possibly executing arbitrary code through a crafted file.
Google notes that there was an 84-percent YoY (year-over-year) jump in security patches during Q4 2019, compared to the same period last year, of course.
The December security patch for Pixel phones brings Pixel Themes and gesture support for third party launchers. It also brings the Live Caption feature to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a handsets.

Factory image are available for every other Pixel phone, including the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL.
The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are the company’s latest and greatest phones. We’re not sure why this update is late for those phones, but there you go.
The update will start rolling out next week, and probably contain the same exact fixes as for the other devices. It is possible that Google will sneak in something else, though. That may be the reason why the update is a week late.
The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL were actually on sale during the Black Friday weekend. They were discounted quite a bit. It would be interesting to see how many devices was Google able to sell thus far, since the launch.
