Galaxy S11+ May Feature A 5,000mAh Battery Provided By LG

According to a new report from South Korea, the Samsung Galaxy S11+ will feature a 5,000mAh battery provided by LG. This information comes from thelec.kr, and is based on the info provided by ‘industry sources’.

If this information ends up being true, it will be the first time LG will provide Samsung batteries for its Galaxy S series of devices. LG did supply the company with batteries for the Galaxy Note 10 series, by the way.

The Galaxy S11+ will utilize battery packs from both LG Chem & Samsung SDI

Just to be clear, this does not mean that Samsung will use LG’s batteries exclusively. Samsung will probably produce batteries for the Galaxy S11+ as well. Considering the sheer volume, though, LG will need to help out.

LG is the world’s largest lithium-ion battery producer by capacity. Having that in mind, it’s not really surprising that Samsung decided to cooperate with the company.

The source also said that LG Chem will mass-produce those 5,000mAh batteries for the Galaxy S11+ in its Nanjing plant in China. Those batteries from LG Chem will be provided to Samsung Mobile in addition to batteries from Samsung SDI.

Samsung will use a custom PMP packing method for the battery cells in order to reduce the size of the wrapping. That way, the company will be able to include more capacity in the same battery size. That is why the entire Galaxy S11 series will see a battery bump.

Those devices will need larger batteries due to a higher refresh rate in their displays, and larger displays in general. The Galaxy S11+ is actually rumored to include a 120Hz display. Both the Galaxy S11 and S11e are also expected to include a high refresh rate, but we’re not sure if it will be 120Hz, or 90Hz, perhaps.

In any case, all three devices will need fairly large batteries, in addition to software optimization, in order to offer decent battery life overall.

Both the Galaxy S11e and S11 will include considerably larger battery packs

The Samsung Galaxy S11e is expected to feature a 3,730mAh battery. The Galaxy S11, on the other hand, will probably ship with a battery that will have a capacity between 4,300 and 4,500mAh.

For comparison’s sake, the Galaxy S10e included a 3,100mAh battery, while the Galaxy S10 featured a 3,400mAh unit. As you can see, this is quite a bump in sheer capacity.

The Galaxy S10e did not exactly provide great battery life, and neither did the Galaxy S10. So, these new battery sizes will hopefully be enough to improve battery life in their successors.

All three Galaxy S11 handsets are expected to launch in February. A recent rumor suggested that they will arrive on February 18, prior to MWC 2020.
