OnePlus 8 Series Specs Surface With A Couple Of Surprises

The OnePlus 8 series is not expected to arrive before May 2020, and yet some specs info surfaced in China. This information popped up on Weibo, and it would be wise to take it with a grain of salt.

This information does not come from the usual sources, which are considered to be highly reliable. The source of this information, who shared OnePlus 8 series specs via a screenshot, is not exactly well-known.

That being said, the OnePlus 8 Lite, OnePlus 8, and OnePlus 8 Pro are listed here. Those are the three models expected to appear, and three models whose renders surfaced recently.

These OnePlus 8 series specs reveal some surprises

Let’s kick things off with the OnePlus 8 Lite, shall we. If it becomes a reality, it will be the first ‘Lite’ smartphone that the company announces. It will also be inferior to both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.

The OnePlus 8 Lite will be fueled by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 processor, according to this info. If it ends up happening, it will be yet another first for OnePlus. The company never released a phone fueled by a MediaTek processor.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 is nothing to scoff at. It has a lower clock speed than the Snapdragon 865, but the same CPU core configuration. It also comes with an integrated 5G modem.

The OnePlus 8 Lite is said to feature a 6.4-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is also said to include a 4,000mAh battery, and 8GB of RAM (LPDDR4X). Two storage variants will be available if this info is accurate, 128GB and 256GB variants (UFS 3.0).

The device is said to include 48, 16, and 12-megapixel cameras on the back. A 16-megapixel camera is listed as its front-facing shooter. The phone is also listed to include IP53 certification for water and dust resistance, by the way.

Both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will feature 120Hz displays

The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will both include 120Hz displays. The OnePlus 8’s will measure 6.5 inches, and this will be a fullHD+ display (2400 x 1080). The ‘Pro’ model, on the other hand, will ship with a 6.7-inch QHD+ (3140 x 1440) display.

These two devices are said to include similar camera setups, with a 64-megapixel camera (Sony’s IMX 686 sensor) as their main sensor. The OnePlus 8 Pro will have a ToF 3D camera on both the front and the back, unlike the OnePlus 8, though. A 32-megapixel camera will be included on the front of both phones, it seems.

The OnePlus 8 will include IP53 certification, like the 8 Lite, while the 8 Pro will sport IP68 certification. Both phones will include LPDDR5 RAM, and will be available in 8GB and 12GB variants. Both phones will include 128GB and 256GB storage (UFS 3.0) variants, and a Type-C USB 3.1 port.

The OnePlus 8 will include a 4,000mAh battery, like the 8 Lite, while the 8 Pro will ship with a 4,500mAh unit. The 8 Lite’s pricing is rumored to start at CNY2,999 ($428) in China, while the OnePlus 8’s may start at CNY3,699 ($528). The OnePlus 8 Pro’s most affordable variant will set you back CNY4,999 ($713) if you live in China. Global variants will be a bit more expensive.
