Last week, OnePlus said that it will show off something at CES 2020. We had no idea what is coming, but it seems like we’re looking at a new phone, as OnePlus’ CEO just confirmed that the ‘OnePlus Concept One’ is coming.
Pete Lau confirmed this information via Weibo. We do know that it will be announced between January 7 and 10, during CES 2020 in Las Vegas.
The OnePlus Concept One will become the company’s very first ‘concept smartphone’
This will become the company’s very first concept smartphone. Mr. Lau also said that this will be a futuristic device, but he did not give out any specific details.
We really do not know what to expect here, there are a lot of possibilities. At first, very few people thought that OnePlus will show off a new smartphone at CES 2020. At this point, it seems like that’s exactly what will happen.
Considering that this phone’s name will be the ‘OnePlus Concept One’, you can expect its design to be considerably different to OnePlus’ existing smartphones.
This China-based company will obviously try something new this time around. Truth be said, this could even be OnePlus’ concept foldable device, even though that’s not as likely.
OnePlus usually develops a lot of prototypes before it finalizes the design, but we’re guessing this will be considerably different than the company’s regular devices.
Other than a foldable smartphone, a phone with an under-display camera is also coming to mind. OPPO, OnePlus’ sister company, has been developing under-display camera tech for a while now. This could be OnePlus’ way of showing that technology as well.
The OnePlus 8 series will not make an appearance
We’re only guessing here, though. OnePlus really did not give us a lot to go on, and all we can do is blindly guess what is coming. Considering that the OnePlus Concept One is coming, the OnePlus 8 series will almost certainly not make an appearance.
The OnePlus 8 series, including the OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Lite, and OnePlus 8 Pro, is expected to arrive in mid-2020. OnePlus will probably announce those three devices in May, or something like that.
At this point, it’s not even clear whether OnePlus plans to sell this concept smartphone, or is this just a demonstration of some new tech. Both scenarios are a possibility.
If it does end up being on sale soon after CES 2020, expect it to be more expensive than OnePlus’ regular smartphones. In any case, it will be interesting to see what OnePlus has up its sleeve, that’s for sure.
