The wearables band market had some significant growth this past quarter, as a report from Canalys shows that it grew 65-percent from the same time last year.
Most of its growth also comes from the Greater China region, which contributed to almost half of all of the wearables bands that were shipped during this time period.
Specifically, Greater China makes up 45.5-percent of the wearables bands that were shipped. That isn’t the biggest growth by region, but it is by far the largest chunk of the overall growth for the market as a whole.
Asia Pacific had the largest shipment growth for the wearables band market
When it come to the biggest amount of growth year over year by region, Asia Pacific was the largest. For Q3 of 2019 Canalys reports the region’s shipments grew 130-percent.
Compared to the Americas, which was the lowest growth at 43-percent, this is huge. It demonstrates the popularity of wearables bands in that region. As well as the ability or willingness to purchase a product of this type.
As far as number of units goes, Asia Pacific went from 3.1 million wearables bands shipped in Q3 of 2018 to 7.1 million this year. Meanwhile the Americas went from 6.8 million to 9.8 million.
Greater China went from 11.4 million to 18.3 million. And the EMEA 6.3 million to 10.3 million. Also worth pointing out is that the regional share by percentage only increased in Asia Pacific while decreasing in the other three regions.
Xiaomi was the top brand for units shipped
Xiaomi has been at the top for units shipped since at least last year, and it’s remained there. According to the numbers the Xiaomi stayed at the top for Q3 of 2019.
In total during this period it shipped 32-percent of all the wearables bands for the period. Which is the largest amount from a single company. Samsung came in second at 13-percent, followed by Fitbit and Apple at 11-percent.
Huawei comes next at 4-percent. The remaining 30-percent of wearables bands shipped is made up of various brands collectively. This would include companies like Garmin, Polar, Misfit, Withings, and more.
Xiaomi being at the top shouldn’t be surprising. Greater China was the largest region for units shipped, and Xiaomi is a Chinese brand. Greater China is no doubt where the vast majority of its units are sold.
When it comes to market share, the results are mostly the same. Xiaomi is still at the top, but it’s then followed by Apple, Huawei, Fitbit, then Samsung, with the remaining market share being split among various vendors.
