JBL Intros The Boombox 2 With Massive Sound & Battery Life

JBL has announced the massive Boombox 2 portable Bluetooth speaker at CES 2020, in Las Vegas.

The original Boombox speaker from JBL wasn’t a particularly popular or volume seller for the company, but it was pretty cool. The new Boombox 2 does have some design changes, but it largely looks the same. But with bigger sound and better battery life.

JBL Boombox 2 has sound that the whole neighborhood can hear

The Boombox 2 is still a 360-degree speaker, so it’s going to be able to fill up a room pretty easily. Though that is also thanks to the fact that you’re going to be able to turn up the volume to 11 with the Boombox 2.

JBL says that the Boombox 2 has its Original Pro Sound, which “guarantees epic sound, all day with monstrous bass”. This is going to provide you with a really impressive sound experience. And the JBL Boombox 2 can be turned all the way up without the sound getting distorted at all. That right there is a big deal actually.

You can stream via Bluetooth from your smartphone or tablet (or anything else that has Bluetooth). PartyBoost is also here, so you can connect the Boombox 2 with other JBL speakers for stereo sound, or even connect two Boombox speakers for some epic sound.

Unfortunately, there is no support for Chromecast or AirPlay 2 though.

All-day battery life, and we mean that!

The JBL Boombox 2 has all-day battery life, legitimately. JBL claims that it can give you up to 24 hours of continuous playback. That is really impressive. And because the battery inside the Boombox 2 is so large, you can also use it as a power bank to recharge your phone. That’s great for when you’re out and about.

With that battery life, you might be wondering about waterproofing. Well, it is rated for IPX7 waterproofing. So that means that you can take this to the beach or the pool.

We did mention that there were some changes to the design on the Boombox 2, but it did keep that handle. Making it easier to carry it around. It also has some unique side detailing now. But it remains the most rugged speaker on the market.

Pricing & Availability

It’s not often that we get pricing and release dates at CES, but the JBL Boombox 2 has both.

The JBL Boombox 2 will be available in the Spring, and will cost $449. It’s a pretty pricey portable Bluetooth speaker, but given the size of this speaker, that’s not a surprise.
