Philips Hue has made the trip to Las Vegas for CES 2020 and is showing off three new outdoor smart lights that will be available later this year.
These include the Econic pedestal light which is a small path light. The Lily XL spotlight, and this is a larger version of the Lily Spotlight that is already available. And finally, Appear, which is a wall fixture.
No Philips Hue Bridge needed for these
Like the new Philips Hue bulbs, these three new products also sport Bluetooth. Which means that you won’t need to get the Philips Hue Bridge to use them. That hub was needed with the older lights since there was no Bluetooth or WiFi included in the lights, but that is changing now.
This is going to make it much easier to control your Philips Hue products, and without the bridge, that is one less thing that you need to have outside and connected to your WiFi network.
These new lights from Philips Hue are colored lights, so you can make them any color you’d like. This is going to be good for during the holidays. Using orange and red around Halloween to make it scary, or green and red around Christmas to feel more festive.
Philips Hue has two updates being announced today, too
In addition to these three new bulbs, Philips Hue has a couple of other updates it is announcing at CES.
Firstly, the Hue Play HDMI Sync Box, is gaining voice control through Amazon Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant. Philips Hue says that it should arrive in the spring – which translates to around March or April.
Secondly, the Hue app is getting an update in the near future. Which will display the battery level of accessories and the zones feature. These were already available in the beta version of the app, but they will be moving out of beta with the next update, and work with all lights and accessories.
Pricing & Availability
The Appear, Lily XL and Econic will all be available later this month. The Appear and Lily XL will both cost you $139 each. Meanwhile the Econic Pedestal Light is going to be $129.
This is pretty rare to see, a product announced at CES coming out in the same month, but kudos to Philips Hue for making that happen. It’s one of the few products that will actually be available in a reasonable time-frame.
