We’ve already seen a lot of tech being announced at CES 2020, and Royole’s just announced something rather odd. The company announced a futuristic-looking smart speaker called Royole Mirage.
The design of this speaker can definitely be categorized as ‘futuristic’. The vast majority of its body is covered by the display, and even without it, it would look quite odd for a speaker.
This speaker hangs from one metal-made ring, and floats above the other, that is placed on the bottom. That bottom ring is connected with the top one using a flat piece of metal. It’s a really interesting design choice from Royole.
This speaker will definitely stand out, no matter where you place it. If you have a really futuristic-looking home, it may fit in, though. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, some people may prefer its noticeability factor.
The Royole Mirage smart speaker comes with a 7.8-inch “fully flexible” AMOLED display
This speaker features a 7.8-inch “fully flexible” AMOLED display (1920 x 1440). This speaker is made around the Qualcomm APQ8053 platform, and it has two microphones for far-field voice recognition.
Royole also included three 48mm full-range drivers inside of this speaker, along with a passive radiator. The Royole Mirage smart speaker has 30W RMS of output power, and it comes with 2GB of LPDDR3. The company also included 16GB of storage (eMMC) on the inside.
A 5-megapixel camera with a mute slide switch is also a part of the package, and the speaker supports Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. It also comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4/5GHz).
It also offers Amazon Alexa support
Amazon Alexa is supported by the Royole Mirage smart speaker. If you take a look at the provided images, you will notice that this speaker has four touch buttons up top. It has volume up, volume down, microphone off, and action buttons up top.
Above its wraparound display lies a slide switch for turning the camera on and off. Royole promises that the Mirage will provide “360-degree immersive sound”.
The company also mentioned that the design of this speaker is referred to as “Crystal Cleer”, and that a “powerful DSP” is included in the package.
If you’re interested in getting this speaker, you should know that it will ship to consumers in the second quarter of this year. We still do not know when exactly, though.
The speaker will be available in the US and the UK, according to Royole’s information. It will cost $899 in the US, and £799 in the UK. Needless to say, this is quite a high price tag for a speaker, but it sure is unique. It remains to be seen how good will its sound output be.
