After announcing that PlayStation Vue would be closing down, late last year, Sony is now pushing its users over to YouTube TV. Which many would say is the best alternative anyways.
PlayStation Vue is due to shut down at the end of the month, on January 30. So users need to start looking for a replacement for their streaming TV service. Sony is currently promoting YouTube TV to its PlayStation Vue users. Though, that doesn’t mean you must switch over to YouTube TV. But it is pretty competitive to PlayStation Vue on everything, including price.
If you head to the PlayStation Vue website right now, you’ll be greeted with a message saying it’s shutting down on January 30th. As well as this text: “As the PlayStation Vue service is ending, please consider YouTube TV as a cable-free live TV alternative. Watch local sports and news from 70+ channels, all available on your favorite devices. Learn more here and try it for free.* (Sponsored link)”.
The end shows you that it is a partnership where money changed hands, as the link to sign up for a free trial is a “sponsored link”. And that’s smart on YouTube TV’s end.
YouTube TV being pushed as an alternative to PlayStation Vue is smart
This is a very smart move for YouTube TV. It has been looking to gain subscribers quite a bit lately, and has done a lot of sponsorships for the NBA Finals, the World Series and such. But getting customers that are going to need to switch anyways, to switch over to its service, is genius.
And YouTube TV is pretty competitive with what PlayStation Vue offered already. Including over 70 channels, an unlimited cloud DVR (something PS Vue did not have) and much more.
Though, YouTube TV is only a single package, and not many packages like PlayStation Vue had, so there’s that. But it also means that you’re going to get all of the channels that YouTube TV offers, for one price, instead of needing to upgrade or downgrade for specific channels and features.
If you are on PlayStation Vue, and looking for an alternative, YouTube TV is a really good option. It is a favorite here at Android Headlines, even with its recent price hike, it’s still the best option around. If for nothing else, other than its unlimited cloud DVR.
