OnePlus has joined the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), and by doing that, indirectly confirmed the wireless charging feature for the OnePlus 8 Pro.
The OnePlus 8 Pro will almost certainly feature wireless charging
The OnePlus 8 Pro has been tipped to support wireless charging by a well-known tipster, Max J. Considering his track record, that confirmation was basically enough for us. This latest news that OnePlus joined the WPC is only icing on the cake.
It seems like OnePlus is finally ready to include wireless charging in its smartphones. The company has been criticized for quite some time now for omitting that feature.
In the past, OnePlus said there are two main reasons why it has been avoiding wireless charging. The first reason is its speed, it wasn’t fast enough. Well, we’ve seen that change in the last year or two, as 25-30W wireless chargers are a thing these days.
That takes care of one problem for OnePlus. The second issue was heating, as wireless charging usually heats up devices quite a bit. Well, it is possible that OnePlus figured out that problem as well, as the company is ready to include this feature in at least one of its smartphones.
The company will probably release its own wireless charger as well
It remains to be seen what exactly will OnePlus do as far as wireless charging is concerned, but if it ends up being included in the OnePlus 8 Pro, the company will almost certainly release its very own wireless charger.
The company’s handset will probably be compatible with pretty much any Qi charger, but OnePlus may release its very own charger which will have its benefits.
That’s actually something similar that the company did with Warp Charge, its proprietary charging. You can charge up your OnePlus handset with a regular charger, but it won’t charge as fast or as efficient.
Now, the OnePlus 8 Pro has been mentioned, by Max J., as the phone that will include wireless charging. That doesn’t mean the OnePlus 8 won’t, though. It may be a feature that is exclusive for the ‘Pro’ model, but we’ll see.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are expected to arrive sooner than expected. OnePlus introduced the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro in May last year, but considering the number of leaks we’ve seen thus far, the OnePlus 8 series may arrive sooner than that.
The company could introduce its new phones in March or April, if we had to guess. Both devices will be made out of metal and glass, and include a display camera hole.
Both of them will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865, and include plenty of RAM. The OnePlus 8 series devices are also rumored to finally include a proper IP rating.
