The LG V60 ThinQ launch will only take place in North America and Europe, says the company executive Shin Jae-suk.
This is a part of the manufacturer’s strategy of launching different tiers of 5G handsets in different regions.
Since American and European customers are more willing to splurge, it makes sense to release premium phones in these markets.
Moreover, the carriers in these two regions also run more aggressive marketing campaigns. This will consequentially allow the company to cut down on its own marketing budget.
LG Wants To Capture The Early Demand For 5G Handsets
LG is keen to profit off Huawei’s misfortunes and Apple’s late entry into the 5G market. Thus, for now, it wants to capture as much demand from the U.S., South Korea, Japan, and Europe as possible.
In its home country of South Korea, the company plans to release ‘mass premium’ handsets. The manufacturer believes that since the competition between telecom operators is slowing down, it’s a better idea to release affordable 5G phones in Korea. By cheaper handsets, the company probably means those that are a part of the G series.
LG is considering ODMs for its mid-range and entry-level models. The plan is to outsource the manufacturing of 20 million out of the 30 million phones it’s planning to make to an ODM.
Moving production of its handsets to contractors will allow the manufacturer to cut costs.
By releasing 5G handsets across different price points and lowering cost, LG hopes to return to profitability by next year.
However, if you look around, most other companies have a similar strategy. Xiaomi, OPPO, and Samsung already outsource production to do cost saving. Similarly, many manufacturers plan to release affordable 5G capable phones this year.
LG V60 ThinQ Launch Expected At MWC
Needless to say, the competition is pretty tough. Thus, to lure customers, a solid device will perhaps work better than any other strategy. Currently, all eyes are on the LG V60 ThinQ launch. The phone will likely be unveiled during MWC which will take place later this month in Barcelona.
The company will probably announce the LG G9 during the event too.
The LG V60 ThinQ will reportedly have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 under the hood. The SoC will probably be flanked by the X55 modem for 5G connectivity.
The phone is expected to come with an improved dual-screen accessory with an upgraded folding structure. Hopefully, it will offer more in terms of functionality too. While LG might release foldable phones in the future, for now, this accessory is its answer to the bendable phones around.
The handset will apparently also have an in-display fingerprint reader and a leaked image implies it will have a quad-camera setup at the back. Detailed specifications aren’t known yet, but we can expect it to have a primary wide-angle sensor, a telephoto unit, an ultrawide lens, and a Time-of-Flight module.
Other details are sparse, but with the LG V60 ThinQ launch around the corner, we can expect more rumors in the coming days.
