LG has just made the V60 ThinQ official, even though Mobile World Congress was cancelled.
The new smartphone from LG is a bit larger, coming in with a 6.8-inch display, but it also has a massive battery. We’re looking at 5,000mAh capacity here. Which is the same as the new Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, however this display isn’t quite as crazy as the S20 Ultra’s.
That display is pretty sad
So the LG V60 ThinQ has a 6.8-inch display, which sounds pretty good. But it is a 1080p, 60Hz display. Which sounds odd for LG. The company that was one of the first to go Quad HD many years ago. And the V series has always used a Quad HD or Quad HD+ panel. So to see it sticking with a 1080p panel is a bit odd.
Now the refresh rate isn’t that big of a surprise for LG. Even though we expect most smartphones to go either 90 or 120Hz. But paired with that 1080p panel, that display won’t look all that great. But the battery life is going to be amazing. Given that it is 5,000mAh capacity battery, and if we compare it to the Galaxy S20 Ultra, you’re going to get at least a good 9 hours on screen time.
Other specs for the LG V60 ThinQ include the Snapdragon 865 chipset, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There is still a micro SD card slot as expected.
Oh and there is still a headphone jack.
The cameras are also weird
The LG V50 ThinQ had three cameras, the V60 ThinQ? Only two. There’s a 64-megapixel main sensor at f/1.9 aperture. And then there is a 13-megapixel ultra wide camera. There is technically a third camera, but you won’t be able to use it, as it’s a Time of Flight camera. That is going to be used for sensing depth.
It’s pretty strange that LG is going without a telephoto sensor on the V60 ThinQ this year. And for all intents and purposes, the V60 ThinQ looks to be a downgrade from the V50 ThinQ, which is very unfortunate.
But at least it still has 5G capability and that dual display. Speaking of which, that dual display is also a 6.8-inch 1080p, 60Hz display. To match the main display on the V60 ThinQ.
Pricing has not been announced, but the LG V60 ThinQ will be coming to AT&T, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon in the coming weeks.
