As most of you know by now, Redmi had introduced a new flagship quite recently. The name of that phone is the Redmi K30 Pro, and it includes a 60Hz display.
That choice seems to be quite unpopular with users, as Redmi is facing quite a bit of criticism on social media. Redmi’s GM (General Manager), Lu Weibing, has decided to offer an explanation as to why Redmi opted for a 60Hz panel on the K30 Pro.
The decision was made 10 months ago
Mr. Weibing says that the specifications for this device were determined about 10 months ago. Back then, the company opted to utilize a 60Hz display, and did not want to make any changes just for the sake of refresh rate. Why? Well, that would mess up some things, like battery life.
Redmi opted to include a standard refresh rate mainly because of full screen experience, and battery life. The company had to choose between better battery life, or higher refresh rate.
The company opted for better battery life at that time, and decided to stick with it until the end. Redmi’s GM said that even a 90Hz display would be enough to considerably impact battery life.
Do note that this is a really good display, though. If you really want a high refresh rate, then you’re out of luck. In every other way, this is a great display. We’re looking at Samsung’s E3 AMOLED panel here.
The Redmi K30 Pro features a 60Hz display with 180Hz touch sampling rate
This panel offers a 180Hz touch sampling rate, so it’s quite responsive. It also supports HDR10+ output, and supports TÜV Rheinland Global Eye Care Certification. It can also get extremely bright at peak brightness of 1,200 nits.
Why are Redmi’s users annoyed by the company’s choice? Well, there are two main reasons. The first one is, many people think that every 2020 flagship needs to offer a high refresh rate display.
The other reason is, well, the Redmi K30 offers a high refresh rate display. The Redmi K30 is a mid-range variant of this phone, that got announced back in December. It has a 120Hz LCD display. So, that’s double the refresh rate of the ‘Pro’ model, even though it’s an LCD panel.
The bare minimum for flagships this year seems to be 90Hz, at least in the heads of smartphone users. We’re not talking about the vast majority of them, as many of them don’t know the difference, see the difference, or care about it.
If you do see the difference and care about that sort of thing, then it’s understandable you’re annoyed by this. It’s not that easy to go from a 90Hz or 120Hz display, to a 60Hz one.
It remains to be seen how well will the Redmi K30 Pro sell. That phone seems like a great purchase in pretty much every way, especially considering it will be one of the cheapest Snapdragon 865 smartphones. This device is expected to make its global appearance under a different name, the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro.
