Pre-orders are now live for Motorola’s latest budget-friendly smartphone entries, the Moto G Stylus and Moto G Power. The handsets, each priced under $300, are available right now via Motorola’s official storefront site and will ship by April 16. Motorola is selling both of the handsets unlocked from any carrier. That means that they’ll work right out of the gate on any US mobile carrier with the notable exception of Sprint.
Sales will reportedly open up from mobile service providers after the pre-sale comes to an end.
Moto G Power, Stylus are similar devices that hit very different needs
Now, the Moto G Power and Stylus are, as their branding implies, similar devices. But each is also designed to suit very different markets and needs. Announced back in February, the latest Power-designated Moto G-series handset is aimed at users who need to get extra daily use. The Moto G Stylus, conversely, centers on productivity and a device-housed stylus.
Each of Motorola’s latest budget handsets ships in a 6.4-inch format with a Max Vision display panel. The resolution of both is set at 2300 x 1080 pixels but the aspect ratio of the Moto G Stylus is slightly taller at 19.17:9.
Weight is another key difference found here, with the Moto G Power’s 5,000mAh capacity battery bringing that up to 199g. That’s as compared to the Moto G Stylus’ weight of just 192g with a 4,000mAh battery. The former device is touted by Motorola as having up to three days of battery life. The Moto G Stylus can last as long as two days, the company says.
But the cameras are also much better with the pricier Moto G Stylus, led by a 48-megapixel primary snapper. The Moto G Power, by comparison, ships with a 16-megapixel main camera.
The similarities, conversely, are just as prominent as the differences. Not only is the design almost identical. As noted above, both ship with similar screen sizes. That panel also offers users that large format for accessing the latest Android 10 features. Powered by a Qualcomm-built Snapdragon 665 SoC, users gain at least a few other top features too.
For instance, a fingerprint scanner is part of the build for these aluminum handsets too. 10W rapid charging is included for both, although that will undoubtedly charge up the Moto G Stylus more quickly.
These devices will be widely available starting April 16
While the devices are available now on Motorola’s storefront, they won’t be available elsewhere until April 16. Buying directly from Motorola should ensure compatibility with any GSM-based carrier. Both handsets will be sold directly through Verizon, Google Fi, and Republic Wireless. Metro by T-Mobile and Ting, on the other hand, will only carry the Moto G Stylus. US Cellular, Consumer Cellular, and Xfinity Mobile will carry the Moto G Power but not its stylus-touting sibling.
Regardless of sales location, pricing is set to be effectively universal. The 64GB Smoke Black Moto G Power sells unlocked for just $249.99. The Moto G Stylus ships in a Mystic Indigo coloration with 128GB of storage for just $299.99.
