OnePlus had introduced its OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro flagship smartphones today. We’ve already talked about the two phones in our official announcement. We’re here to take a closer look at OnePlus 8 series specifications.
The two phones do have some things in common when it comes to specifications, but there are quite a few differences. They are, however, almost identical in terms of the design. We’ll kick things off with the OnePlus 8 specifications, and will then talk about the ‘Pro’ model.
OnePlus 8 specifications
The OnePlus 8 features a 6.55-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080, 402 PPI) Fluid AMOLED display. This display offers 90Hz refresh rate, and we’re looking at 20:9 aspect ratio here.
The display is protected by Gorilla Glass (unknown version), and it’s a curved display, by the way. HDR 10+ content is supported by the OnePlus 8’s display.
The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 865 64-bit octa-core processor. That SoC comes backed by the Snapdragon X55 modem for 5G connectivity.
The phone comes in two variants, one variant includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The more expensive option comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. OnePlus included LPDDR4X RAM and (2-LANE) UFS 3.0 flash storage inside the OnePlus 8. You cannot expand its storage, by the way.
A 4,300mAh battery is included inside of this phone, and it supports 30W fast charging. This is wired charging, and it’s OnePlus’ proprietary 30T Warp Charge charging (5V/6A). The phone does not support wireless charging.
It includes the same main camera sensor as its predecessor
A 48-megapixel main camera (Sony IM586 sensor, f/1.7 aperture, 0.8um pixel size, 6P lens, OIS, EIS) sits on the back. It is backed by a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle camera (f/2.2 aperture, 116-degree FoV), and a 2-megapixel macro camera (1.75um pixel size, f/2.4 aperture). PDAF is supported, and so is contrast-based autofocus. A dual-LED flash is also included.
A single 16-megapixel camera (Sony’s IMX471 sensor, f/2.4 aperture, fixed focus, EIS) can be found on the front side of the device. The phone also includes an in-display fingerprint scanner (optical), and Bluetooth 5.1.
There are two stereo speakers included here as well, and they come with Dolby Atmos support. A Type-C USB port can be found on the bottom of the phone. The phone does include an NFC chip, and WiFi 6. Android 10 comes pre-installed, along with OxygenOS.
The device supports facial scanning, thanks to its front-facing camera. The phone comes in Onyx Black, Glacial Green, and Interstellar Glow color variants. Only the Glacial Green model has a matte finish. The phone measures 160.2 x 72.9 x 8mm, and weighs 180 grams.
OnePlus 8 Pro specifications
The OnePlus 8 Pro sports a 6.78-inch QHD+ (3168 x 1440, 513 PPI) Fluid AMOLED display. This display comes with 120Hz refresh rate, 240hz touch sensing, and a 19.8:9 aspect ratio. It also supports HDR10+ content, like the OnePlus 8.
The display is curved, and it is protected by a sheet of Gorilla Glass, though we don’t know what version. This display also packs in a MEMC chip.
The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 865 SoC, the same as the OnePlus 8. That chip is accompanied by the Snapdragon X55 modem in this phone as well.
The OnePlus 8 Pro also comes in 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variants. The thing is, this phone utilizes newer and faster RAM, LPDDR5, not LPDDR4X. It has the same storage, though, (2-LANE) UFS 3.0. It does not offer storage expansion, the same as the regular model.
It includes 30W wireless charging & more compelling camera setup
A 4,510mAh battery is included here, and the phone supports both wired and wireless charging. It comes with Warp Charge 30T 30W wired charging, and 30W wireless charging. Reverse wireless charging is also supported here.
The OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a more powerful camera setup. It includes a 48-megapixel main camera with a newer Sony IMX689 sensor than the OnePlus 8. That is the same sensor that OPPO included in the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro. In addition to that, this camera includes an f/1.7 aperture lens, 1.12um pixel size, and supports both OIS and EIS.
The secondary camera is the same as the main camera on the OnePlus 8, at least as far as the sensor is concerned. We’re looking at a 48-megapixel camera here, with Sony’s IMX586 sensor. The thing is, it comes with an ultra wide-angle lens here, with 119.7-degree FoV. An f/2.2 aperture lens is included.
An 8-megapixel telephoto camera (f/2.4 aperture, OIS, 3x optical zoom) is also included on the back, as is a 5-megapixel color filter (f/2.4 aperture). This phone also includes laser autofocus on the back.
This is the first OnePlus device that includes official IP rating
A 16-megapixel camera (Sony’s IMX471 sensor, f/2.45 aperture, fixed focus, EIS) sits on the front side of the phone. The device also comes with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
An in-display fingerprint scanner is included in this package, as is Bluetooth 5.1. The OnePlus 8 Pro supports WiFi 6, and comes with stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Facial scanning is also supported, and a Type-C USB port is placed on the bottom of the phone. Android 10 is pre-installed on this phone, and on top of it, OnePlus’ OxygenOS.
The phone measures 165.3 x 74.35 x 8.5mm, while it weighs 199 grams. The device comes in Onyx Black, Glacial Green, and Ultramarine Blue color variants. Only the Onyx Black is glossy.
