The Snapdragon 765 seems to be destined for the Google Pixel 5. Another source claims the device will be fueled by that chip, and not the Snapdragon 865. This information comes from David Ruddock.
It’s pretty obvious at this point, the Google Pixel 5 will include the Snapdragon 765
He went on Twitter to say that both the Pixel 5 and 5 XL on Verizon will be fueled by the Snapdragon 765, and support 5G. Now, that will probably be the case with all other units, as chances that Google will use a different chip are minuscule.
The company may opt to release both 4G and 5G variants of the Pixel 5 and 5 XL, though. That is also not as likely, but it could happen, as Google could lower the price tag even further that way.
That’s not all, though. XDA Developers also reported that the Snapdragon 765 will be included. One of XDA’s Senior Members discovered that in Android 11 Developer Preview 4.
He discovered that a ‘g7250’ modem is mentioned, and that is likely Google’s codename for the Snapdragon 765. It could also refer to the Snapdragon 765G and Snapdragon 768G, though.
So, it seems like both Pixel 5 devices will not ship with a flagship-grade processor this year. Some people would argue that it’s for the best, as the Snapdragon 865 is extremely expensive.
It also comes bundled in with the Snapdragon X55 modem, which is the main reason its price is so high. Qualcomm opted not to sell them separately, and that is one of the main reasons why Snapdragon 865 smartphones are more expensive than they should be.
The Snapdragon 768G is still a possibility, but that option is not probable
The Snapdragon 765 is a great processor, no doubt about that. In addition to the Snapdragon 768G, it’s the most powerful mid-range processor Qualcomm has to offer. Well, we may say upper-mid-range.
Those of you who have been hoping that the Snapdragon 865 will be included are out of luck. Things could change by the time the Pixel 5 phones arrive, but that’s highly unlikely. Pretty much every source in the last couple of weeks claims the Snapdragon 765 is the way to go.
That will allow Google to keep the Pixel 5 prices under control. The Pixel 5 pricing is set to start at $699 in the US. The Pixel 5 XL will be a bit more expensive, but there you go. Too bad the Snapdragon 865 won’t be a part of the package, though, but the change is understandable.
We still do not know what the Pixel 5 and 5 XL will look like, though. Their design did leak several times, but neither of those leaks was extremely credible. We’re still waiting for a proper leak of the two phones.
Chances are that the two devices will look the same, though. Chances are that both will be made out of metal and glass, and include a really compelling camera setup. Google will hopefully include an ultra-wide camera this time around.
