MediaTek has announced a new 5G-integrated mobile SoC, the Dimensity 1000+. It packs the same core hardware as the Dimensity 1000 but comes with additional features tailor-made for “gaming, video, and power-efficiency.”
The Dimensity 1000+ supports 144Hz refresh rate at FHD+resolution. By comparison, the vanilla Dimensity 1000 only supports 120Hz refresh rate at FHD+ and 90Hz at QHD+.
The new chipset also incorporates MediaRek’s latest HyperEngine 2.0 technology. It brings better resource management, including CPU and GPU frequency scaling and RAM management, ensuring optimal performance at all scenario.
Updated Network Engine enables the device to maintain a live data connection during an incoming call. There’s also a Rapid Response Engine that ensures a lag-free gaming experience by minimizing the latency of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth links.
MediaTek’s MiraVision Engine now offers real-time dynamic adjustment of contrast, sharpness, and color levels of 4K videos. The engine is also capable of enhancing SDR video and converting it to HDR10. The company promises “better picture quality than standard HDR10+” with its MiraVision Picture Quality Engine.
The Dimensity 1000+ also features a 5G UltraSave technology that dynamically adjusts the modem’s power configuration and operating frequency to reduce power consumption.
So as you can see, the Dimensity 1000+ brings several improvements over the vanilla Dimensity 1000. Top of the line smartphones can certainly benefit from features such as 144Hz refresh rate, SDR video enhancing, and more.
Vivo spin-off iQOO has already announced that it’ll launch a phone with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+. The company hasn’t revealed any details about the phone itself, though. It’s recently launched Snapdragon 865-powered iQOO Neo 3 also has 144Hz refresh rate support.
Dimensity 1000+ has the same core hardware as the Dimensity 1000
In terms of CPU and GPU specs, the Dimensity 1000+ doesn’t bring any upgrades at all. It is based on the 7-nanometer FinFET process and features the same octa-core CPU, with four ARM Cortex-A77 cores clocked at 2.6 GHz and four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz.
This chipset also packs the same ARM’ Mali-G77 GPU, which can also be found on Samsung’s Exynos 990. It gets the APU 3.0 (AI Processing Unit), which has two big cores, three small cores, and one tiny core.
The Dimensity 1000+ supports standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) sub-6GHz 5G networks. It also supports 5G carrier aggregation, dual 5G SIM with theoretical download and upload speeds of 4.7Gbps and 2.5Gbps, respectively.
Interestingly, MediaTek’s Dimensity 1000 is yet to appear in a commercial phone. The company had said phones with Dimensity 1000 will arrive on the market in Q1 2020 but that obviously didn’t happen. Now with the launch of a more powerful Dimensity 1000+, it remains to be seen if the company keeps the older version.
