The OnePlus 5 and 5T are now receiving a stable build of Android 10. The company had released several Open Beta updates based on Android 10 for the two devices, and the stable build is finally here.
As of writing this article, OnePlus still didn’t publish the news on its official forums, but users have been receiving the update. The update weighs about 1.8GB, and it is rolling out OTA (over-the-air).
Stable Android 10 update brings OxygenOS 10 to the OnePlus 5 & 5T
This update brings Android 10 on the OnePlus 5 and 5T, along with OnePlus’ OxygenOS 10. With this update, four generations of OnePlus flagships are rocking Android 10. The OnePlus 5, 6, 7, and 8 series devices.
The OnePlus 5 and 5T were released back in 2017. The first one, the OnePlus 5, arrived mid-year, while the OnePlus 5T landed at the end of that year. These devices are not old, but not many companies keep their Android devices update past the 2-year mark.
OnePlus delivered in that regard, and we do hope that bugs won’t crawl in the coming days. If everything goes according to plan, and OnePlus doesn’t pull this update, you’ll get it within a week.
You’ll essentially get a similar experience as other Android 10-based OnePlus devices, as the software will look almost identical. The OnePlus 5 and 5T are still plenty fast, and Android 10 should only help with that.
Do note that there is one difference between the two devices when it comes to this update. The OnePlus 5T will get Android 10 full screen gestures, while the OnePlus 5 will not. The OnePlus 5 has a capacitive fingerprint scanner / home button below the display, and is not considered to be a full-screen phone.
These two builds are almost identical
Other than that, the features on these two smartphones should be basically the same. You’ll get some visual updates as part of this update, along with a new theme section, and various other changes.
Android 10 will enhance locations permissions on the two smartphones, while some new customization settings have been added as well. The Game Space app will be a part of this update as well.
If you really want to get this update straight away, you can try using a VPN, though chances are that won’t work any longer. You’ll just have to wait for it to come your way, as we still don’t have files for manual installation.
As a reminder, both of these phones originally launched with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. That means that this is the third large update they’re receiving, following Android 8 and 9, which is commendable.
