OnePlus may not release another McLaren Edition smartphone, as the company has been removed from McLaren’s partners page. This seems to be a rather clear indicator that the partnership is over.
OnePlus & McLaren partnership may be over
A Reddit user managed to notice that OnePlus is gone from McLaren’s partners page, as you can see here. The two companies have collaborated on two phones thus far, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition and OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition.
Both variants arrived with more RAM, and different paint job. The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition also included faster charging than the regular model when it arrived.
This is not a definitive ‘no’ for the OnePlus 8T McLaren Edition, of course, but it does seem to point in that direction. OnePlus may address this in a statement / press release, but that’s not as likely.
We’ll simply have to wait until later this year to see what will happen, as per usual. OnePlus is probably not done with special edition devices, though. The company did a Star Wars edition smartphone, and Marvel Avengers Edition in the past.
So, chances are that we’ll get something else later this year. We cannot guess what, of course, there are a ton of opportunities for OnePlus out there, so we’ll see what will OnePlus end up choosing.
The OnePlus 8 & 8 Pro are the company’s main focus at the moment
The company’s main focus, at the moment, are its new OnePlus 8 flagships. The company announced two new flagship smartphones last month, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.
Both devices have been available for quite some time, and no, neither of them arrive in a special edition model. That is reserved for the company’s T series of devices which arrive later in the year.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are actually quite similar in terms of the design. Both include thin bezels, a display camera hole, and look very similar in general. The OnePlus 8 Pro does have an extra camera on the back.
That being said, the OnePlus 8 Pro is a more compelling device in terms of specs and features. It is officially water and dust resistant, and it includes a more powerful camera setup.
The device also supports 30W wireless charging, which is not something the OnePlus 8 can say for itself. The OnePlus 8 Pro also comes with newer and faster RAM.
The ‘Pro’ variant may be more powerful, but it’s also considerably more expensive. Both devices are considerably more expensive than their predecessors, though, and both include 5G.
