New OnePlus 8 & 8 Pro Updates Bring System & Camera Optimizations

The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are getting new updates with system and camera optimizations. That’s not all, though, network optimizations are also included, along with some other changes.

The OnePlus 8 series is getting a ton of ‘System’ and ‘Camera’ optimizations

The changelog here is quite long, and the changes are almost identical for both phones. There are a couple of additional entries for the OnePlus 8 Pro which we’ll mention in the end.

Let’s talk about the ‘System’ changes first. OnePlus optimized the touch and interaction experience on both devices. Optimizations for the ‘expanded screenshot’ feature is also included in this update.

The power consumption has been optimized as well, and the company claims that the battery life has been extended quite a bit thanks to that. The pocket mode has been optimized as well, so it can avoid mistouches even better.

The unlocking animation has been improved, while the wireless charging stability has been boosted as well. The wireless charging part is applicable to the OnePlus 8 Pro only, of course.

This update also brings an update to the Android security patch for May, and it updates the GMS package to March 2020. Now, the company also rolled out several ‘Message’ updates as well.

The ‘Delete’ button has been added in the notification bar for incoming messages. The keyword whitelist option in SMS blocking settings is now also available. So, messages with specific keyboards will never be blocked, if that’s what you want.

A new codec has been added, while the whole camera experience has been improved

In terms of OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro camera optimizations, there are several of them. The H.265 HEVC codec has been added to reduce video storage size. The auto ultra-wide-angle lens feature has been added, for those close-range shots. This last change is for the OnePlus 8 Pro only.

The click animation for the camera shutter has been optimized as well. The shooting experience with the camera has been improved in general, claims OnePlus, on both phones.

In terms of ‘Network’ changes, OnePlus improved the “stability of communication”. The performance and stability of WiFi transfers has also been improved, and network latency for online games has been optimized.

The last change that OnePlus listed has to do with the ‘Game Space’ app. Epic Games has been added in Game Space, says the company. That way, you’ll have easier access to Epic Games titles.

This update is rolling out globally, and is marked differently from one market to the other. The point is, you should get it within a week, OTA (Over-the-Air). That will happen unless OnePlus stops rolling it out for some reason, of course.

UPDATE:Video filters for the camera have also been added. That has not been mentioned in the changelog.
