Upcoming Samsung Smartwatch May Be Called The 'Galaxy Watch 3'

Samsung might soon announce the successor to the Galaxy Watch that launched in 2018. As per the latest leak, the second-generation Samsung Galaxy Watch will be called the Galaxy Watch 3 and not the Galaxy Watch 2. The listing also reveals key specs of the upcoming Galaxy Watch 3.

The company might have taken this decision to avoid confusion between the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active lineups. When Samsung skipped the Galaxy Note 6 to launch the Galaxy Note 7, it spelled disaster for the brand.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 key specifications leaked

Talking about the Galaxy Watch 3, the listing spotted on Thailand’s NBTC (National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission) website revealed key specs of the product.

The GPS + LTE version of the Galaxy Watch 3 41mm variant will be coming with the model number SM-R855F.

As per the earlier leaks, the Galaxy Watch 3 will be available in 41mm and 45mm sizes. FYI, the original Galaxy Watch came in 42 mm and 46 mm sizes. Though the dial size is slightly smaller, the new Galaxy Watch will sport a larger 330mAh battery.

Will be the first Galaxy smartwatch to with titanium case

The current Galaxy Watch models are available in both aluminum and stainless steel options. With the upcoming smartwatch, Samsung will introduce a more premium titanium casing option. Even for Apple, last year’s Apple Watch Series 5 was the first watch to come with a titanium case.

It also comes with MIL-STD 810G certification for its durability. On the front, it features Corning Gorilla Glass XD that protects the circular display from knocks and scratches.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 will be IP68 certified for water resistance up to 5ATM (50 meters).

The certification also confirms the Galaxy Watch 3 will be manufactured in Vietnam. It will continue to support 5W wireless charging. The GPS-only variant will come with the model numbers SM-R840 and SM-R850.

Earlier leaks also hinted that the upcoming Galaxy smartwatch will bring back one of its fan-favorite features.

Just like the Galaxy Watch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 will also feature a physical rotating bezel for navigating through the UI. It returned in a digital avatar with the Galaxy Watch Active 2.

It runs on Samsung’s proprietary Tizen OS and lacks the support for Wear OS apps. We will have to wait until the official launch to find out the complete specs of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch 3 alongside the Galaxy Note 20 lineup in August this year.
