Links can now be used to send invites to others to join a Google Duo group call. Similar to what you can do with Zoom.
This makes it extremely simple for anyone who uses Google Duo on the regular to have other people join the call. Users still have to have Google Duo installed, though. So if they click the link and don’t have the app on their phone, then the link will probably take them to the Play Store.
If the apps is already installed, then links will simply launch Google Duo.
Shareable Google Duo links are live for most users
According to Android Police the ability to share these links is live for just about anyone. You will need a specific version of the app, but it seems that most people are already on that version.
Which happens to be version 89 and version 91. If you’re on either of those versions and you don’t see the option to share links, then you may still have to wait a bit.
To share a link with another person, you will need to create a group call first. Open Google Duo, set up a group video call, then invite at least one other person to the call like you normally would. Once you have it set up, there should be a share link that you can copy and paste.
From there you can share the links with anyone you wish to join the call. And do so through any method of sharing a link. Whether it be messages, chat apps, emails etc. The share button for links will be sitting just above the end call button. So if you don’t see that then it isn’t quite live for you yet.
You’ll get to see who’s in the call before you join
The last thing you might want is to join a call before knowing who’s in it. Perhaps you’re trying to avoid certain people. Or maybe you just like to take stock of who you’ll be chatting with beforehand.
Either way, joining a group Google Duo call will allow you to do just that. After clicking the link, you’ll have the opportunity to see every other group call member. And all prior to actually joining the call yourself.
Whatever your reasons would be for wanting to know, this could be useful. Since this is reportedly available to most users at this point, it would be a surprise to see all users have the ability to share links with others by the end of the week.
